View Full Version : Stop-motion set.
javierleon 06-19-2009, 01:05 AM Hi
My name is Javier Leon and I´m a freelancer based in Spain. I made this demo at Molinare. The intention was to recreate the feel of a scale model set for a stop-motion film but using CG. I made all the design, modeling/texturing and lighting myself.

Wow, that's stunning.
Well done.
How did you add the 'dust' in the air was it particles or done in post?
Cheers

Wonderful! Did you render with dof or you made it in post? What about the camera setup, how did you go about getting that miniature feeling? Would be supernice with some info :) Once again stunning work. Simply beautiful.

thanks everyone for the kind comments.
The dust is a simple particle system.
The DOF is made with DOF PRO.
I think the miniature look is based on the scale of the textures, the roundness and slight imperfection on the modeling and also the DOF helps a lot.

Holyyyyyyyyyyyyy sh************t!
Karryyyyy, congratulations! That just, rocks!!! I love the "maquette" style in the modeling. Keeping the "hand made" look, not extremely detailed but not extremely simplistic, spot on! Just love it!
The render is great! I really like the "bokeh" effect!
5 Stars!!!
Ruben.
You could've thrown Wallace and Gromit in and I wouldn't have second guessed it. Great job!!!

Hola Javier,
Congratulations, Very good work indeed.
I love the general tone ad colors of the scene, the only think I see a little weird is the speculards, like in the telephone or the teapot, have you tried to blend with an HDR reflective map?
Definetelly this work need to be on the frontpage. :)

Man I couldn't believe my eyes on the stills already, let alone the vid. It looks so real, and the miniature look is very convincing! You make it sound so easy, but you truly are an artist. Wiremodel looks incredibly clean too. How did you do the curtains, cloth simulation?
javierleon
06-22-2009, 05:31 PM
thank you all for the kind words :)
Paljas: the curtains are hand modeled, also the cushions and the dolly cloths. Glad you liked it :)

Hey Guanny long time i haven´t heard from you....are you at Ilion now?
Let me explain a bit about some details of the process. It started long ago with this imagen.
The people at Molinare convinced me to finish the set, but i wanted to redesign most of the elements. Once everything was modeled and textured we rendered everything using Vray. The integration with the toy was done taking pictures with a very fast DSLR camera. It was re-timed in the Mistika, then stabilized and tracked. They did a slight color correction on the Mistika and then some other stuff like grain and finishing the integration of the toy with Flame.
I wanted to say thanks to all the posproduction team at Molinare Madrid for helping me with this.
regards
Karry

Hi simyevil, thanks your comments I´m glad you like it. I agree, the Dude toy is completely out of style, it´s only an integration test and we thought the character was cool.
