I made a rigg for a octopus where the top part of the octopus is a skeleton and the legs are nurbs curve made to deform with the wire tool. They are based on this amazing tutorial by Ryan Schubert on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlvN_f6neAA.

I am really happy with the rig and think it works very well and looks really cool when I move the legs, because they sort of slowly drift and follow my rig very naturally and as if they are under water.

However the problem comes when I am going to bind the skeleton AND the curve, because the skeleton will not let me remove all the influence which it has on the legs.
I could sendt it to anyone who would like to look at it, see what you think.
Is it even possible to to bind both a skeleton and a curve?

Looking forward to hearing from all you amazing riggers out there :D

You can use nurbs curves as influence objects in a smooth skin bind. But it's not recommended, since curves only have the u direction. There will be strange deformation when you rotate your model. Instead you could create joints along the curve, and use spline IK handle to let the joints to follow the curve, then add them to your skin cluster.

Than you, that makes a lot of sense because i was really scratching my head over how to actually rotate the tentacle when they were deformed by a nurbs curve, but i liked the dynamic simulation so much that i just put that fact aside.
But as you say with a spline handle I could rather crated the dynamics on the clusters on the ik spline.
Thank you so much.
