View Full Version : :sigh: why does biped hate me?
Gilgamesh 05-10-2002, 07:20 AM I am having this problem: I have a biped animation. I save it as a bip file so that I can use it for another (identical) biped. When I load this file, the movement is identical, except the whole rig is some 40 units up in the air. It seems like everything is translated in the Y direction. Even planted keys. There are keys for the initial position of every object at frame 0, so it isn't that problem. Whats up?

Dunno whats wrong, but if you link the biped to a Dummy, and lower the dummy 40 units you'll be okay :)

Yes I definately know your pain with this problem since I go through this a couple times a day. I don't know how to fix this but usually this is how I correct it. If you have windows 2000, nt , xp open two versions of max. One with the biped that has the animation and one with the biped that your going to load it into. Save you bip file and load it into your new biped and at this point it's probably moved. Go to your original biped file and copy your x, y, or z coordinate (which ever direction it moved). Now go to the new biped create a layer select the com and paste your number in the according axis it should snap into the correct place. Colapse the layer and your done. I know this is much more indepth than linking it to a dummy. I do it this way because it's the quickest way to get it accurate and I work in games where the character has to start and return his animations in the same location. If you don't need this kind of accuracy than maybe the dummy would work better for you.
Well you probably checked this, but by default biped loads all animations at z=0, even if you saved it at z=-40 for example. You can uncheck it when you load your file, it's called set lowest starting foot height to z=0 (.bip files only) in the open file dialog box.
biped dowsnt hate you
its part of its programming to annoy and upset.
deescreeet found some new secret func. in c++ that can warp your fregile little mind and make you cry.
most of this they incoprated into CS.
the rest into max3.1 on win98

Well thanks for the help, guys. I went through and fixed the keys, so it's all better. Anyway, that's it. After this project is done, I'm going to learn how to make a decent IK rig. CS can stick it.
