What I got my self here a caracter that needs to be quality clothed. Not only that, but he also has to be animated with all the dinamics. So what I am asking from the pros around here who might of done similar animation is how should I go about creating this cloth. I am not asking for a tutorial just suggestions. From what I see making complicated clothing is not very convinient with maya cloth, but modeling the cloth and then applying dinamics wouldnt produce the same great simulation, or would it? The clothing is for winter so it also has a bit of volume and stiffness.
Thanks ahead for the help.
Here are some reference pic of what my guy will be wearing, 1 or 2

cloth can be really difficult to use. especialy if you a lot of cloth like you want to have.
first of all, take cloth only as a driver. means, modell all the cloths in nurbs, and then make low poly cloth garments and use them to drive the nurbs. you can do this by using the wrap. it's a little bit hard to setup but has a lot of advantages.

other method may be to use wrinkles and wire deformer instead of cloth. cloth is dynamics and dynamics will bring you always into lot of trouble.

Cloth can be quirky, but it kicks major ass. First off make sure you are working in metric units, I found for some reason that cloth is just more stable and accurate in metric. Second only make the items that must be cloth, cloth like the jacket and pants, make the collar and cuffs wrap deformes using your favorite poly or nurbs modelling techiques. I highly suggest the bonus game script collection's curve from edge script for this (you can get the bonus game scripts off of A|W's web site). For making the actual cloth objects, use maya's cloth creation tools, they are incredible and based on real world tailoring. Since Maya cloth is based on real world cloth use a real world pattern to base the creation of your panels off.
