Try Flash MX Games (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0240519035/ironlung08), it's good starting point.

I haven't had time to try anything out - too busy making a living unfortunately.
I've read quite a bit of the book and it seems to be a good primer for someone wanting to adapt actionscript to games (using arrays, keeping scores, loops, conditions and functions - all basic actionscript, but in the context of games development.)
It takes you through different types of game and gives examples of actionscript. There are a couple of chapters wasted on how to create characters and stuff, but I just skipped that.
I learned actionscript through the Friends of Ed books and by picking apart source files from Flashkit etc, but the book helped me see how to apply that knowledge to games development.
It wasn't a recommendation, danydrunk, merely a suggestion. Take it or leave it.
