OK, here it goes, I know you guys are tough so I'm a bit nervous. This is only my 4th model that I've "completed". I use "completed" loosely because I know that you will have suggestions. Anyway, here it is. Thanks for looking. -- 3d_e

Great work, love all the nicks and scratches on the beatles shell. The one thing i would change is the legs, the lower half of the leg (the part closest to the foot) looks like a piece of molded plastic, i think its because the spikes coming off it are so uniform and stuff. Maybe add some more hair here and there. Anyway, great model :)

(edit) Don't bugs tuck their legs under their bodies when they are dead?

Hey, thanks! Ya know, I don't know about bugs tucking their legs. This was modeled with reference photo from an obviously dead bug and they weren't under his body so who knows. ;) ;) Anyway, I just watched the animation of Celesias and I tell you what, I'm embarassed to even be posting here. There are so many kick ass animators around here that my little bug just looks like crap. Anyway, thanks!! -- 3d_e

 The texture and the illumination are reasonable, the modelling is strange, it deserves to improve that finish.

Just a quick question.

While the rest is obviously rendered to look photoreal, the beetle looks like it's rendered with a toonshader. This is most obvious around the front-right and middle-left legs.

Is this intentional, or is the beetle reflecting the (black) negative space around the scene in 3D-space? Hope I'm clear on this.

Just curious.

Ouch! That's gotta hurt...

Nice rendering, looks like it was done with airbrush technique...like the style of it.

Cheers,
YC

Thanks guys, I thought this thread was long dead. Hey Strong, hope I didn't offend you. ;-) Was a bit drunk when I wrote that and it wasn't meant to offend. Thanks again! -- 3d_e

Just occured to me that I forgot to answer your question, evil. I don't think that the darkness is caused by "empty space" I have a sky dome that I was hoping to get some nice reflections from. It probably is due to the fact that that particular shader has very low reflectivity settings, I think. :) -- 3d_e
