hi, im at work right now and ive been looking for ways to queue up various scene files for rendering, like in After Effects.

i've looked around and haven't found anything in the search pertaining to this nor on the web or in any maxscripts.

i have 4 other workstations at work and i DO NOT want them to be a part of a network job of any kind. i simply want this machine to render 5 different scene files while im gone for the night so i can finally get some sleep.

does anyone know of anything? why is it so difficult to find information about this?

In order to do this you have to setup a network, or batch render. Inside the Max render dialogue there is an option with a checkbox labeled "net render"; make sure this option is checked.

Now when you have all of your scenes ready to go, turn on Backburner's "manager" and "server" service. These are both located within the Discreet start programs tab where you normally go to start max if you don't already have a shortcut on your desktop. Once these two services are running, your are able to batch render on just one machine. Go back into max and hit render, it will bring up a network render dialogue box. In order to have your scenes render on just one machine, make sure you have "use all available severs" unchecked. And volia! :)

okay cool, thanks, and if theres only one server listed because of the 255.255.255.0 ip, then it should only render it to my machine right?

I recommend pausing each job as it starts to make sure you're computer isn't crippled by the first job (you can do this with the included backburner monitor), and once you have all five jobs running, quit 3ds max (just the program not the server, manager, or monitor). This will dramatically improve render times, as 3ds max (the program) won't fight for resources with the server.

there is actually a button to "suspend initially" if you are sending a bunch of jobs. YOu can also keep the server app closed until you are ready and have sent all of them into the queue.
