This concept shows an agent on a mission in a futuristic environment. He has a cloaking suit, so he can get around more easily. Unfortunately the enemies have beam devices on their helicopters, that can neutralize the invisibility effect. Dangerous times for our hero!

nice sketch, Martin!

one thing, maybe mirror the whole sketch and also mirror the agent running off screen, so that you have a nice diagonal line running from upleft towards downright? Just a thought, because I think the character should be running away from those helicopters.. Anyways.. NICE!! Keep going!

MichaelZHsee, gpepper, RageOfAges, thebest, OZ, Zapan: Thanks guys :)

MVDB: Cool feedback. I'll try that :)

Btw: Did you guys get the rain connection here? Because of the splashing it was easier for the pilots to spot that something was wrong in the area, and then they turned on the beams...

really cool work mate! ... there's a lot that can be played with here .. e.g.

> reaction of the cloaking suit with water? ... like sparks of eletricity .. i remember seeing this on predator 2 ... when he jumps down in the alley and hits the puddle ..
> lens flare ( not a strong one ) helicopter searchlight ...
these can be added in the later stages .. see how it works out ;)

cheers mate! n good luck!

hi Martin!

Nice concept. The color scheme is great and this is just the beginning:thumbsup:

i agree with MVDB. His idea would add some depth to the picture and emphasizes the pressure on the agent.

Ok. I mirrored the scene, so our hero now runs away from the hunters. I think it works better, that he now runs up against the wind and rain. He's really in trouble now! Maybe it would be an idea to move the buildins closer forming an alley, he can escape in.

mdavid
06-18-2009, 04:18 AM
It definitely looks better now, I reckon. And since I hadn't already chimed in with my opinion about your concept I'll do so now: I love it!

Neubius Thank you :) I wish, I were...

nwiz25
06-18-2009, 03:07 PM
hey bro!! love the scene now! building up really nice! ... but there is something missing .. like in order to show he has seen by the copters/ cars, he makes a quick run for it! ... sabotaging his special suit ... which is slowly getting visible or damaged due to rain and lights ..? ( pls correct me if that sounded ok or not :p )

so after all that thinking .. i did a little outlining ... as to what could be possible for the story and fx ....

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e265/nwiz24/idea.jpg (http://%5BIMG%5Dhttp://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e265/nwiz24/idea.jpg%5B/IMG%5D)

first, as he sees them and makes a run for it ... you can gradually show a speed trail fade off ... point from he was to where 'we' see him now ...
second, rain is affecting his suit as well ... in connection with the speed trail, you can show character trails fade off ... or like cracking in between for visibility ...
third,(final) ... as he runs, you can show puddle splashes appearing till where we see him .. coz he was invisible before, so no splash ..

man! .. hope i made sense :D ... i myself got confused :hmm:

hope this helps ya bro .. i see a lot of potential in this!
bless ya!

Hey, reminds me of Snake on the bridge at brginning of MGS2 except snake wasnt spotted ;p

Also I do agree with some of the suggestions nwiz25 made especially the water splashing thing. :D

MartinNielsen
06-18-2009, 03:19 PM
Thanks for the feedback, nwiz25 and c780162 :)

The story is, that the spy already has activated his cloaking suit. But because of the rain, the helicopter pilots can spot some splashing in the rain and direct the beam towards him. When that happens, the illuminated area of the suit looses the invisibility. The red color on the suit is a transition effect. The water itself doesn't affect the suit, but he's still physically there.

DarwinsMishap

I really like this concept so far, and the mirrored idea seems to me a preferred one. The color scheme I'm diggin' as well. Can't wait for the next installment!

Hey Martin,

Glad to see you in this competition. YOu have a lot of technics and skill here.. Good imagination as well. My suggestion is try to sharpen up the character a little with the advantage of having him or her show some movement as well. Maybe add in some blur motion to the arms and legs and see it it shows it moving. Anyways, i hope this helps, take care for now.

Kirt

I think you have a pretty good idea here. The angle is very dramatic and the setting adds a lot of mystery to the scene.

However, the shape of the runner really confuses me when I look at it. My experience tells me that larger things are closer to me and that when you run your arms and legs swing in opposition to each side. However, in your image, you have both larger appendages dark and behind the figure. Which says that they are both closer to me, on the same side of the body (due mostly to lighting) and therefore swinging in parallel on the same side of the body. :surprised

Also, due to lighting, I can't really tell if the character is running towards me, away for me or perpendicular to my view and off to the right. It hurts my head thinking about it.

MartinNielsen
06-18-2009, 07:31 PM
DarwinsMishap and OZ: Thanks :) This is absolutely the concept I'll go with.

ShogunWarrior and Kirt: Thanks for the feedback :) I agree with all your points. I haven't spent too much time on the spy, since this is just a concept drawing. I plan to do most of the content in 3d.

Yeah, i definetly agree with kirt! Take a look at some thumbnails on olympic runners!! The left arm moves with the right leg, then the right arm moves with the left leg. Its natural like dogs and cats movement as well, nature. If you have both left and left leg movement it looks awkward as if hes doing some time of dance instead of running, lol... good show kirt.

hi buddy. THe concept looks good.
about the composition if u leave space in front of ur subject looking at or in this case running it will make it better I guess.
because what is happening is , there is lot of negative space behind ur subject(the guy running) which makes any composition slightly weak.Just a suggestion.
Or may be u can slightly move the guy running towards the camera so that audience has atleast a glimpse of the subject. again just a suggestion.
Best of luck. will catch up with ur update soon.

varma, warpv, Madness-of-Hamlet, snake08, mdavid, seili: Thanks everybody :)

At the moment I work on the last details on the helicopter. Rotors, landing gears etc. I plan to complete it with textures right after. Next thing will be the vehicles in the background, and they won't need that much attention. The big thing will be the spy, because I'm not that trained in character modeling. The last thing will be the environment and effects.

Really nice looking helicopter Martin. Great idea too with the vanishing suit and the rain..
What is your approach to the project... are you texturing selected pieces? are you doing 2d post for the fx? are you doing the main guy (spy) as a 3d model or is he going to be a 2d fx... just wondering.
I want to see it all put together... nice job so far

DarwinsMishap: Many thanks for that! :) Actually this is not a precise replica of the Apache. More like a "next-gen" x2 version with more advanced equipment. Remember this is a future concept.

FranciscoAlvarezDelgado: Thanks man :) I plan to do the key elements in 3d with textures: helicopter (of course), spy and vehicles in background. The rest will be a combination of 3d and 2d in Photoshop.

Sorry for the lack of updates from me lately. Some pretty serious issues have emerged, that really need my attention. I'm almost done with the unwrapping, and I did this color test here as well. Because of the financial crisis, the game company had to close down the production department. So at the moment I'm without a job, damn it  They will try to reestablish the department though, so maybe there's a future there afterall :) Because of this I have to deal with all lot things. Finally an update! As I wrote before, the last 3 weeks have been very hectic for me. But now I'm on track again with this baby. I'll continue making 3d assets for this entry, until I reach the point, where I have to switch to 2d. Probably the agent and all effects will be made in 2d.

Great chopper! Very well done.

But didn't you put a bit too much effort in a object, that won't be the centre of the image? I mean how do you want to finish the rest in 2,5 weeks? I hope you can do it ;)

I got a suggestion for the scene: Maybe it would be cooler, if the Spy would jump from roof to roof, instead of running along a boring street ( or whatever it will be ). With some obstacles he could take cover behind or a litten door where he could try to get in. Some storytelling :)

Anyways good luck with the rest!

Neubius: Thank you :) Same level as always...

varma, Denicg and melkao: Thanks guys :)

yakonusuke: Thank you :) You're absolutely right, that the level of detail is WAY too much here, but I really want some good models for my 3d portfolio. So I just finish, what I can the next 2 weeks. Your roof-idea is quite good.

Hey Martin !

Awesome to see you almost done !
The only thing I would change is the chopper position , doesn't feel like it 's following the perspective right , maybe a more facing/up pov will help . Maybe you aren't able to change it right now , if not , forget about it ! Looking great anyway

Looking forward for the post FX :)

I too have a problem with the chopper, can't properly place it in the scene - if it's cloder than the trucks, or further away, but bigger... It needs some haze/atmosphere treatment, even a subtle one.

This is a great mood and atmosphere, Martin! I feel like the picture has gotten a but confusing since the second to last post: In the previous one, the chopper looked like it was in perspective with the bridge. Now it's so low and at an angle that it feel like it's crashing. And the lighting behind it is so bright (as is the "headlight" in front of it) that, combined with the perspective thing, my overall impression is that the helicopter just got hit by lighting. "How lucky for the agent," I thought, "Now he doesn't have to use his rocket launcher because the lightning took out the copter for him... Oh, wait, did the helicopter get hit by lighting? I can't tell..." But maybe that's juts me. I'd suggest either adding a nice explosion to make it clear that the lightning hit, or perhaps change the perspective and tone down the lightning bolt to make the scene more clear...
Good luck!

MartinNielsen
08-06-2009, 07:35 PM
Zapan: Thanks :) I think you're right about the perspective, and I'll look into it.

nfuchs: Thanks for the support :) I don't think, that I've changed that much. The agent will still have a cloaking suit, that's being jammed by the helicopter. And in this story the agent actually has a goal (the trucks).

azazel: Thanks :) I see your point now.

varma: Thank you :)

walrus: Thank you for the feedback :) The idea is, that the lightning strikes very close to the helicopter, but not hits it. I think, I just move it away from the chopper.

nice mood on your picture. I find the lightning on the right gives too much focus on a "unused" part of the picture, maybe remove it and move your agent more to the right (if it doesn't make it weird with the road sign).

I like the idea of the rain revealing him.

This is really coming along. I'm not sure if youre planning on adding this (you probably are) but It would be nice to see some water/mist getting kicked up from the force of the rotors, right now the chopper doesn't quite look like it belongs and i think painting in just a little bit of that would really bring it together.

This image shows an agent on a mission, where he must stop a military project at all costs. More specific he must stop a convoy of trucks transporting a new nuclear technology. He has a cloaking suit, so he can get around more easily. Unfortunately the convoy has a helicopter as protection with a beam weapon, that can neutralize the invisibility effect. Dangerous times for the agent!
