Hi all

This is my first CG Challenge. Quite exciting.

The image hopefully speaks for itself.
The image I hope will have a 1960s feel with a dark overtone.
Background architecture will be John Lautner meets Buckminster fuller.

Goodluck to everyone in the competion.
Cheers

"..... Bloffeld had it coming....."

Nice idea. Looks like it would fit well also with the atmosphere used in Pre-Credits for the Daniel Craig Casino Royale. :)

Hmm...a good story BEHIND the image... A good lighting would create the suitable atmosphere...love to see more developed concepts. Keep it up!

Great Concept man love the idea of not actually seeing the secret agent but just his/hers finished work.
The cat is a nice touch too.
Have you thought of maybe showing the secret agents shadow walking away? Just to suggest it has just happen.

Anyways its my 1st challenge too so any advice would be appreciated

Cheers for the comments so far - at the moment just working on some character design for the "evil boss" - hopefully will post early next week some sketches and maybe some WIP on the cat. The Shadow is definitely something I have thought about - once I make a plan for the lighting I will see if this is achievable.

Some Character study - was actually hoping to have more done by now but was struck down with the flu (not swine - I hope). Also very busy at work. Need to get on to some architecture concepts too - time to push on.

If I may suggest... you can try something like this room:

http://www.svenskstandard.org/wp-content/dr-no.thumbnail.jpg

Add in the chair.. and the table.... and you're more or less set.

Credits: The Room is designed by Production Designer Ken Adam for the MGM film "Dr. No".

First Lighting Concept and rough idea of architecture in background - so far big concrete beams of sorts lit from the ground. Monolithic/Sterile - might also do same option but with some texture like brick maybe with some chrome inserts or glazing.

I have a couple more ideas for the architecture including a dome - will post soon.

I think it could be interesting, if you add some character on the back (far waway form the point of view), like he's leaving the room. Nice composition.

Another light/Colour test. Same space as last with some different materials(colours) brick/chrome. I also added the silhouette of the "agent" walking away as budji suggested earlier - not sure of the agents placement at the moment but I will keep working on it.

I like the composition and palette you've got going on here otoh - quick question, is the cat licking up the blood? If not, I think it's something to consider...Not to be over the top or gruesome so much as to show the cool indifference the cat has for its owner.

jamieholmescg
06-25-2009, 02:13 AM
Thanks for the Comments - Definitely is something to consider. That was my original attention since the initial idea to have the cat in the scene like the whole Blofeld/James Bond thing. Is kinda gross but I can live with that and like you said with the indifference maybe the cat is the real evil mastermind?? Who knows

Here is my sketch for the Dome option - triangles cut with light spilling in - quite dramatic maybe too much. I suspect this will be quite a hard space to light nicely. The space also feels smaller eventhough its the same size as the previous. However, I do like the mood of this one.

Let me know what you think.

Like the scene, but doesnt get the " secret agent" feeling. Sorry If I am misunderstanding here, but I think you shoud try to explain your story better in the picture. Maybe show us a reason why this guy shot himself. I see the guy behind the desk there, but didnt recognize him after a while which are cool tho, but you shoud maybe make him a little more in viewable.

Looking forward to more updates!

Thumbs Up!

This is the 2nd time I have dabbled with character modelling. I based (copied) this mesh on a model that came with an older version of Modo. Thought it would be a good way to learn how to get the typology right. I could be going a little overboard as you wont actually see the "evil boss's" face but was a good or painful process - 50/50. Will hopefully get some more done this weekend.

Just another update on the character in my scene. I'm going to stick with an oriental type suit for now.

Just a minor update on the proportions of this character. It has been slow going but I think I will get on to the chair now and then work on the pose. Everyone else seems to be doing awesome work.

Chair based on the eames lounger. Working frantically to get everything modelled. Damn paying work!

I went with the classic colt - seemed to be fitting of the time and is a good looking gun.

This is a raw render from Max. Texturing underway. A few things missing here - gun, lamp on desk, I haven't textured the suit, no fur on the cat yet but getting there.

For many evil years the AMA dangled world peace over the worlds leaders. But this was never to be. The AMA used their power to create uncertainty in the world and dictate how they saw fit from the shadows.
These times were hard as unemployment, poverty and crime were at their all time worst. During such time a handful of the worlds best operatives were rounded up with one objective - To end the evil that to date could not be stopped.
This seemed an impossible task as the operatives were foiled at every turn. The head of the AMA was a ghost who had eyes everywhere and could not be touched...

No one knows for sure when it happened. Winter 69? But it did.
No more war.
No more hunger.
No more hate.

I really like the look and feel of this image. You've done a really good job with the smoke which can be very hard to get right.

Good luck with your entry.
