Hello Folks

geeesh, my first post in this (or any other CGSociety-competition) became my first fault ;(.

I think it's a bit unhandy with the image-uploading-system but well.... now the unnecessary double-post is there... I apolagize for this!

Hello Folks

i am glad to compete here with you in this fabulous challenge!
Good luck to everyone!

I slipped into this part of challenge because of three reasons:

1.) I love animation. Since I fall in love with it with "Final Fantasy: Spirits Within" i am fascinated by this art. I want to learn as much as possible for this.

2.) I haven't got any knowlegde about sound-design or music-composing, but i have a great idea which could make virtue out of necessity. So i want to give it a try. :)

3.) In the "Image"-section are so many talented people, which stunning art just blows my self-confidence away. So i am just a coward ;)

At the end, here are some of my inspirations for this topic. I am a great fan of Modern-Action like "Metal Gear Solid" or "Ghost in the Shell" and i just adore strong female characters. So this will be my starting point.

Hello

been busy last few days, but not with this competition. (*shy*)
Well here is a lose artwork i did, using the posted references and some ideas in my mind. This shall become my main-character a female agent code-name "2Hearts" Nothing very spectacular.
I am still doing the storyboard. I have an idea and pictures, how i want to do it, in my brain, but i can't get them on paper. grumpf!

Hello

again. I had a rush modelling this charakter (well the "rush" took me about 12 hours....). I changed some aspects of the artwork, to make her a bit outstanding from the mass of female agents out there. I am still not finished with her (some corrections and hair must be made + rigging!) but you can see the style the whole video should get. I want to keep it in this cell-shading look.
There would come some slight colours into it, but just with light, the objects themself will not have any colours. I want to try a comic look, especially with speech balloons and soundwords. I hope it will fit together well.

I love the shading style. There was a french movie set in Paris with a very similar style...cant recall the name tho. Persepolis? Something like that.

Hello

hey, thank you very much for your comments. The film was called "Renaissance" and yeah, i liked it a lot and i guess a got a bit inspired by this film. Although the film was in plain black and white, i want keep some grey- and light colour-tones. I don't want it to become such a dark Neo-Noir story like in this film.

Hello

i am still on it, now i began to build the city (on rock'n'roll... uhhh...koffkoff...), where a part of the story takes place. Here you can see, that i wont become plain black/white, but i want to play with light to emphasize mood and atmosphere.

I've got my own thing going with the challenge but would love to help you with the music / sound design. Your visual styling is spot on.

If you're doing live action, crisp sound is a key. If you're doing animation, the same is true but you've got way more control. I've felt the burn of both scenarios so keep updating your post and I'll give you what two cents I can.

Looking around this forum can be very intimidating but it's obvious you've got skills. I've got some interesting midi stuff as far as the music goes, so you could just record yourself humming a tune, and I might be able to translate that to soundtrack. I'll give you the details if you're interested.

Hello

Christopher: Thank you very much for your comment. I am curious how it looks animated, too.

Tony: Thank you very much for your kind words. And especially your offer sounds really great to me.
But, i can't accept your offer at the moment. Why?
Because i don't want to waste your time with a project, which may even not get finished.
It's not my first animation, but my first "full length" short film, so i don't know if i can finish it.
I think, when i am able to see, that i can bring this project to an end, i would take you on your offer. I guess, i write a PM to you, and we could discuss the conditions and so on, if you are still interested then.

Updates are coming soon (maybe this afternoon).

Hello

finally i draw the first part of the storyboard. They are just thumbnails with camera perspective and short discription of action. And this is just part one, because there were no more place on the paper. Next part will be done soon.

I always loved the first few minutes of a "James Bond" film, because there was straight action without much explaining. The hero was from the first moment in danger. That's why i want to start with such a action sequence.

Hello

i did some additional pen-work for character-design. It is the counterpart in the short. Codename "Ace of Spades". I think, references for him are obvious ;).

I am looking forward to model him.

Hello

so, here is the model of the second character. I am very suprised how got it matches the concept, normally i have really problems getting my concept into 3D properly. Maybe it is because of it's stilized look.

Now i have to rig both the characters and add a set for the scenes. I get more and more the feeling i could make it in time.

I agree with the other posts, you have a very unique style. I think this will stand out in its uniqueness from the other entries. Very cool, love the toon shading.

Hello

thank you for your comment. Would I be a negative person, i would say "unique" doesn't mean "good" as even crap can be unique. But i am not, and so thank you for the compliment!

I just hope, that this style fits with the story, and that the animation itself will be good.

Hello

so, i am at the rigging for the first character. Most work i hate is skinning, because it's just encouraging to sit many hours and still finding some places which moves not properly.

I also began to build the set for most of the film. This is just the door, many objects will follow.

Hello,

my progress is very slow at the moment. In two weeks i have my vacations, and i don't go anywhere (no money :/ ), i think i will have much time to work really hard. Up to then, i try to get everything done for animating then.

Here you see some pictures of the scene. I discovered, that the light here will be a hard task to manage. On the one hand i want the warm orange of a sunset, on the other hand the cool blue of electric light. This contrast should set the two characters in juxtaposition. I hope to get this right. :/

Loving the look here. I agree that it really stands out from the other entries. I'm glad you're working with a broader palette than Renaissance... I personally found that style stark to the point that it was taking away from the potential visual appeal rather than serving it.

Keep at it DB; looking forward to more updates.

Best regards, Varun

Hello,

just a new little picture of the two main characters in one. Want to show both are now rigged (the most dificulty part) and ready for some action. Maybe i'll make a poster of this picture, i like it.
