this challenge was a little hard for me because fluid simulation reqired a very powerfull computer and my machine is very (very) old, this is one of the reasons for the "miniature" look of the simulation.

Hi all,
Here's my final animation. Finally I did it.
This is my first FXWARS challenge ad it was a real adventure beacause I had to do many
researches to find the way to render the 2 millions of particles created by Realflow.
At the end I used 3DSMax and Krakatoa. It took me about 50 hours to complete this challenge.
The compositing is done within Shake.

For the animation i used:
3DS MAX 9 32bit
rendered with VRAY
all kind of "mist" simulate with FUMEFX
wave "spray's" done with Particle Flow rendered with "Krakatoa Render"
and the wave was simulated with "RealFlow'
and the Compositing and Audio work done with "Aftereffect"

anyway i think FXWARS is a great way to learn a new technics and doing a greate showreel..
so thanks all and i hope you'll enjoy the animation..

This is my entry to CGTalk's FXWars challange 25 : Lighthouse and waves.
I used 3ds max 2009 for this. Particles are done with particle flow and rendered with Krakatoa in voxel mode. And beauty pass was rendered with Mentalray. Sorry for edges flickering, coz I had to use 1-4 AA settings for final animation as using higher AA setting was taking 15 mins per frame. I hadn't have much time left to render out. So I kept 5 mins per frame rendering time. I hope you will enjoy it.

PS. Sorry for extreme DOF, that's making look more like a toy.... oops..

Shanshore - Nicely done, sure, the camera work isn't dramatic but I like the mix of particle/fluid. Good splashing, I like that you show some white capping as well as just regular water flow.

Good going all, I know water is no easy task but, yeah, lots of scale issues. Water moving too fast for such massive scales. Still good going all.

The simulation may not be perfect but he went further than anyone else by far in the overall.
He posed himself with challenges of dealing with the actual wave before it hits (look at his WIP) and his scene looks the nicest.

My vote goes to Shanshore (Shanmuga Raja .D)

The way the wave hits the shore and the way the incoming wave interacts with the receding wave was awesome. Also, his work displays the most attention to details.
It is the closest to a real wave in terms of simulation. I even liked some white capping shown.
I too agree with others that needs a little bit more on look development part and camera angle.

As I too like Mirco Paolini work but would had love to seen the entire wave coming and splashing with the lighthouse and rocks.

Anyways doing water simulation is really tricky, so well done to everybody!

best visual effect my vote goes for shanshore

best visual effect look wise l i woud say Mirco Paolini but simulation wise there is some work to be done

but similution wise . water of Shanshore looks very natural and just needs a more dynamic compostion and good rendering and one needs to consider the system and the time one is able to spend but the water simulation almost near perfect

but i have to say the work done is great and all u guys have done a great job and the render qualtyand compostion of Yuval Kolton is realy good

First off i'd like to congratulate every1 on a job well done!.Gr8 stuff guys.

I have to agree that Mirco Paolini's entry was probably the best lookin 1, but since this is a Fx challenge nd the main criteria for a challenge such as this, wud have to be the simulation, i think Shanshore did a gr8 job(given the fact that he had a month to learn houdini)!

well for simlulation definitely its shanshore as he has shown both the waves and the splash which i found was better than others work and offcourse which was the main point of this whole challenge . I also did like Mirco's work, the splash and the render looked really good..nd Yuval Kolton's work.. loved the renders man..all the best

DESCRIPTION: hi all.. this is my second time doing FXWARS.. and i had a great time again.
this challenge was a little hard for me because fluid simulation reqired a very powerfull computer and my machine is very (very) old, this is one of the reasons for the "miniature" look of the simulation.

WIP THREAD: http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthr...?f=139&t=760896 (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthr...?f=139&t=760896)

DESCRIPTION:
Hi all,
Here's my final animation.
