View Full Version : Texture development: Oil droplet
peachstapler 07-23-2003, 07:56 PM Suggestions on texture methods for simulating a photorealistic drop of oil suspended in mid-air? I am looking to emphasize the oily, multicolored spectrum we see when looking at an oily liquid.
Example: http://www.oilspill.state.ak.us/images/facts/20.jpg
My thoughts are going towards a noise map, turbulance... any thoughts?

What software are you using? LightWave ships with a shader that can do this :)
But the effect shouldn't be hard to do in any program actually. Ideally you would create some noise maps with all the main spectrum colours, yeah, but ideally you would want to change them according to the angle you view them.
You could try stacking up a bunch of different layers of them, and control each layers visibilty using incidence ramps... that's what I would do :)
