Hey peoples, this is my first post every. I need some help.

I'm current modeling a character in Maya 2009. I've tried various method an they all seem to be to difficult or time consuming or wont work if to be animated. Currently I'm modeling the hair by strands / patches but it doesn't look like that could work either.

I want a certain look, like characters from Final fantasy or Kingdom hearts looking hair. does any one know how to do this? I heard it was spline modeling but i use Maya not 3ds max.

Can any one help me?

Here's my character sheet and what i have so far and what i have in mind as for hair modeling.

thanks you guys, any suggestion is welcomed.

Hmm, I think you are all doing correct, just avoid self-intersecting and make them with 4 sides, i.e. volumetric, not flat, it's not leaves. :) Look, it is layered, so model the first layer, then the second and so on.
I don't know how hair is done in maya, but in max you first make splines that control hair length and direction, and clamping is a parametric function. So even if you make a shader-based hair, it's a good idea to have a geometry as a reference, on which you can build splines.
