Title: The Dragons of Ordinary Farm Cover
Name: Kerem Beyit
Country: Turkey
Software: Photoshop

Cover art for the upcoming Tad Williams book "The Dragons of Ordinary Farm" . I made this for the German Edition. They butchered the artwork in the actual cover with big back lights and color correction but this is the original version.

They did butcher it!! I would have bought a book with your original artwork on it. What they turned it into would make me walk right by without a second glance. Horrid once you see how fantastic the original is:
(you can see it here, I am assuming this is the butchered version you spoke of)
http://www.amazon.com/Dragons-Ordinary-Farm-Tad-Williams/dp/0061543454

Do you know why they did that?

kerembeyit
07-12-2009, 09:33 PM
Nope:) That's the US Edition. I made this one for the Klett-Cotta (German Edition). Here's
the butchered version :

I could live with the color correction, but the girl...

@kerembeyit

I don't think the version you referred to was that awfully "butchered". The too stront backlight of course does'nt make the picture any better but the colour correction isn't that bad. I still prefer you original version though :cool:

I was also referring to the US version which I think was butchered until there was nothing left .

this piece is really well done, i especially like the lighting on the house in the left......one thing to think about is to maybe have a faint contour of a dragon in the mist coming from behind the mt., idk if it would really help anything but im just one of thos people that likes to find little hidden things after looking at a piece of art for a while lol, GOOD WORK

Heres the final book cover I guess.. arrrggh that black fade so ruins the composition, I thought the wings made perfect backdrop for the text so that black fade is not needed IMO, also what's with the silhuette of the girl? it looks weird that she is black yet the dragon is lit.
I bet those "graphic design"-bastards who made that alteration made more money on the peice than you did,
