right click your desktop and choose properties. from there go to settings and it should be obvious how to do it.
maya doesn't need anything specifically done to it. just drag the windows over.

i should have said it in more details, sorry about that.
i can drag out the window like outliner and others with no problem. but the problem is how can i drag out the attribute editor? do i need to write a shelve button to make it in a seperate window? if so, can you send that to me please.
what about the customize loading screen? :)

Are you're talking about how the attribute editor is attatched to the right hand side. That is a new and annoying feature that was added to Maya 4.5. To unattatch that....
Go to you preferences and in the Settings menu at the bottom there's a an option to have Tool Options and\or Attibute Edite open in a seperate window or not.
Sorry if my directions are vague, but I'm not on a computer that has Maya, so that's all I can remember from the top of my head.
If that isn't what you're problem is, then I'm not really sure what you're talking about.....sorry.
Good Luck

Anytime.
I'm getting ready to buy two 19inch monitors for the same reason.
Is the dual setup really worth it?

with maya, it helps, not significantly but it improves the work flow having the entire screen as your work area the other monitor having the outliner, attribute editor and time graph.
but i need it to work with flash also, and it helps sooooo much, especially you spend most of the time scripting and adjusting the elements. and with so many pallette, sometimes can be quite annoying in just one tiny monitor.
i am also having this problem too, when i fire up maya, sometimes i can see the imageplane no problem, but sometimes it gives me a message on the command line saying the program can not locate the file, but i double checked it, the jpeg is there. you know why?

You need to create a "Project", it's under the File Menu, You'll see it.
Create a new Project, use Default settings. Before you open you scene, set the project and as long as your stuff is in the right place it will open fine for you every time.
Let me know if that helps.

yeah, thats exactly what i usually do at the beginning, but it still gives me this,
Error: Unable to load the image file, 'D:/work/subaru/sourceimages/top.jpg', for imagePlane1
but i double checked, there are pictures there already

Does it load when you go and search for it and load it?
Is you "D:" drive a hard drive?
Try using a Targa image format, instead of Jpeg. I've had problems with some jpegs before.

you are correct, i guess the vodka had me since lastnight, targa works perfectly. i will abandon jpegs for impageplane from now on. thank you man. you're the best!!

Not a problem.

Good Luck.
Let me know if there's anything else I can help you with?

i find the dual monitors most useful when i'm following a tutorial or looking something up in online help. i drag windows over sometimes, but generally don't like leaving too many things open. it's also useful to leave a render up on the second monitor while editing in another program like painter. overall, i couldn't live without it. and i ordered my second monitor online for like 100 bucks, so i would totally encourage you to do it!

viewsonic is a good one, had a 19" viewsonic CRt for 3 years and had no problem whatsoever, just got myself a viewsonic LCD 17" and had no problem so far as well, plus they are on promotion.
i am not from viewsonic. just pure personal experience
