Here's my initial digital concept after working some stuff out on paper. The story I'm going with is my character Secret Agent Smith is trying to take down the evil Channel 6 news empire with the help of the sexy former Channel 6 news anchor which he recently "turned."

wow, a nice visual concept already eh, CircusRobot?
lets c, what are the general theme that are you going for with, or what words that are you are playing around with this piece? I often like to throw words around that garnishes the elements in a piece with intense aroma and attributes that are irresistibly delicious that is a dish to dine for, so from what i see in the image, it feels like action, suspense, harmony, San Francisco.
something about this scene makes me feel "too" relaxing, and often in fast action suspense like this one, if a lot of destruction and unfortunate accidents are to involve, it would certainly make the piece more intense; maybe thats just what i like, a hero figure that turns around the most awful and uneven situation that most would find unbearable, bearable; due to his and/or her experience.
often from fast action media examples, i seen techniques that involves over-exaggerated gesture movements, one possible approach would be raising the height of fast moving and accelerating object, higher than its normal circumstances; so something like elevating the News Van a tad bit from the ground as if it was just ramming insanely and intensely in attempts to chase its target, maybe that would bring more action and exaggeration that it is in this fast chasing scene perhaps? what cha think??
also i would try a more curved ground level to see if it can give any benefits to this piece, it is still very early in the game, so you still have some time to play around ;) i remember your last art piece that made the environment so much more dynamic and wide by using this approach.
play around with a few angles in your mind and dig deep your self into the image, and take the perspective of each of those participate interactive elements( “be” the driver , “be” the helicopter, “be” the villain chasing ya)see if anything pops up.
its great that you have already plan out the elements that you will be using in this piece, try rearranging the pieces here and there and c what happens, something surprising would always pop up for me this way =)

Good to hear from you! I'm going to stretch out this process a bit longer than I normally do and concentrate more on this first stage. I definitely will be pushing the action over the top but right now I'm thinking of going with a calm secret agent character (kinda aloof). As you know I want humor in my piece and so I will be playing up the gags and the story behind the Evil Channel 6 News empire. As of right now I'm letting the story come to me so I will be taking my time for now.

Looking fun, but maybe not urgent enough. Right now the spy looks like he's out for a casual Sunday drive. I think add a bit more action in to this one, maybe lose the shades and give us a clearer look at his expression (after all, it's hard to go full action when you're driving. Also, I suppose if you set this up to be rounding a corner, you can add more motion to both vehicles and all parties included.
hehe now thats a nice concept. everything a secret agent needs, fast cars, evil news crew, girls and rocket launchers:twisted: ... love it.
looking forward to the finished thing:thumbsup:

good luck man, are you going with 3d or 2d? I guess 2d from your portfolio ?

I wanted to play with the colors some. The perspective is weird and I'm still collecting references so this isn't the start of my image yet. Quick question. This is my first competition and I was wondering if you needed to post the reference material you used or is that just something some people are doing?
Thanks for the encouragement everyone, I'll need it since I'm a noob to the high stakes art competition arena.:D
MonteCristo: I agree, I'm going to try and push the urgency/drama as much as possible without making it seem serious...we'll see how that works!

I'm still just working out ideas. I added the cigarette that the agent is holding, I added a third chopper, and I have an explosion on what will probably be the main channel 6 TV tower in the background. I will probably have the tower collapsing and I might completely turn the girl and have her shooting at a helicopter instead of the van. At this point it's all up in the air!

oooo, coming along nicely, CircusRobot.
how big is the ch6 corporations and how dangerous are the two agents? depending on how troublesome the situation is, i can foresee more aircraft chasing em from the top right empty sky that you have there since you have 2 helicopters flapping in ;)
btw, does that satellite dish on the ch6 van shoots laser beams? hahhaha

I'm trying to think of Channel 6 as one of those really lame Bond villains...they somehow have the ability to destroy the world but they're still wimpy (hence the small news choppers and clunky van). I'm thinking I can also paint in a huge compound on the cliffs by the exploding TV tower that at full resolution you can make out channel 6 on the front. As far as adding in more choppers in the top right it will depend on the flow of the composition. Right now I have a very circular path for the eye to travel on starting at the car and going counter clockwise back to the car. And as of right now...no lasers, but maybe...;)

Absolutley love those colors

love the colors a lot! very james bond! .. i think for focus you might want to try a little motion blur ...
or depth of field ...
this one is dynamic to the core!
how about blowin up some copters! :D .. that bazooka will make it more obvious!
lots of ideas can come of this! all the best dude!

I've decided to go ahead and start on the background while I'm still playing around with some other small stuff. Nothing here is finished but this should give you a good idea about the level of detail and color pallet I'm going for. Everything is painted from scratch in Painter X.
Edit: In case anybody was wondering, I zoomed in a little on the area I was working on so there is a lot of space cut off.

I've been slaving away at this car for two days now and it's finally starting to cooperate. I also did some building work on the Channel 6 TV compound on the hill and roughed out the city.

I tightened up the really loose areas and tweaked some things. I wont be able to work on it this weekend so I can start with a fresh pair of eyes on Monday. I'm happy with my idea so far so I will probably start blocking in the people, helicopters, and boats when I get back.
