Now when MAYA have integrated MentalRAy can i use my hrdi images to illuminate my scene?

Mental Ray for Maya has supported HDRI since 4.0 as far as I know. All you have to do is load the image as a map file and Mental Ray can read it. You might get some error that maya doesnt recognize it, but mental ray will. When you render, it will be visible, just as long as you render with MR.

In fact you dont even have to convert to .map Maya-MR takes .hdr just fine.
