View Full Version : Concept Challenge: "I Have 2 Words for You"

It's been awhile since we had a concept art challenge going on in this forum. I figured it was time to add a new one to keep everyone working on items for their portfolio and to have a bit of fun. This one will hopefully get better as time goes on and we recieve more entries. What I like the most about this one is that it eliminates the responsibility of me coming up with a new idea that everyone likes (read on for more info). :D

I call this challenge ...

"I Have 2 Words for You" Rule #1 : Finished Work Only! I'm only allowing finished works in this thread. Any WIPs will be deleted. Any image not fully rendered in grayscale or color will be deleted. Don't post a pencil sketch and expect it to stay here! Rule #2 : No Comments! You may not comment in this thread without posting an image. Any posts that do not have a submission for this exercise will be deleted. When you post a submission feel free to comment on any previous work(s) at the end of your post. Rule #3 : Size Restrictions! To keep the thread from being overpopulated by huge images, please keep your image sizes less than 450 x 600 pixels (or 600 x 450). Any post that contains an image larger than this restriction will be deleted. Rule #4 : Add a Suggestion! When you post your submission, part of this exercise is for you to provide a suggestion for future concepts (more below). Post your suggestion in bold red text so that is is easily identified from the other text in the post. Any post that does not provide a suggestion will be deleted. Rule #5 : Label Your Image! Please label your illustration so that others know which concept you were illustrating (more info below). Place this label in the subject line of your post. Any post that is not properly labelled will be deleted. Now, here's how this works ...

I'll start this going by providing an sample entry and the first concept suggestion. You may enter this exercise by either doing the same concept that I did or the suggestion that I provided. As the thread progresses and more entries are posted there will be more concept suggestions available for you to pick from. Pick any previous concept available and illustrate it to the best of your ability.

Here's the catch (and the reasoning behind the challenge title), your concept suggestions can only be described with 2 words. Any 2 words or a combination of words, numbers or names will do (i.e. "blind ambition", "dead tree", "007 girl", "Jennifer Lopez", etc.). It's up to the artist to interpret the meaning as best that they can without further explaination.

If you have any questions about any of the rules, please feel free to PM me and I'll try to clarify them as best that I can. 3D artists - if you find a concept that you'd like to model, PM the concept artist and ask for their permission before starting any work (it's the polite thing to do).

Ninja Hamster

Comments:
This is an example of how I'd like to see the entries in this challenge. Notice that the title is in my subject line, the image is at top of the post, the suggestion is in bold red text and my comments are at the bottom of the post.

Simple huh? Now, lets see what you can do ... next entry should either be "tough guy" or "ninja hamster".

Get to work :wip:

Lucky Strike

Comments:

this is some really great idea for a challenge...it's really pleasing to the eye without any no-pic-comments inbetween

mathilda - could you please do a tut on that shaping-through-lighting stuff you do?

hope my b&w pic is ok, i'm recently checking this stuff out...working with patterns and so on...one thing that kinda disturbs me is that if printed it looks perfectly fine and on screen you can't get the real taste out of it imho ;)

anyway so long .....keep it up
