Hi guys, nice to see you here again. This time I do an individual entry.I will do a story from the inspiration folder-The Message from Gemma White.
Best to you all! And GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!
The Message
(c) Gemma White 2009
Ebony looked down. The wind whipped her stark white hair around her small frame. Below her, streets and ant people flickered menacingly, like drunken reflections. Everything was bathed in red. She needed to return to base soon, or she would be unable to move, let alone escape with the chip.
She concentrated hard, and could hear the stomping of boots on the fire escape to the roof. One more level and they would be up here. There was nothing for it. She had to jump. She leapt, and hoped that even with her low energy levels, her inbuilt emergency landing mechanism would still be functional.
In a matter of 3 seconds, she had left the rooftop, and government agents had flooded the car park where she had previously been standing. Gravity took power over her body, until she was plummeting like a ragdoll, pavement surging up to greet her.
The pavement was red. The sky, a deep burnt amber. But she was lucky. She had just enough energy left. She landed, encased in a rubber cocoon. Inside, she was sheltered by a silken airbag that took the impact of the fall. She rolled off to a side alley, and made a call. “EB to base, EB to base, made emergency landing, corner Field Street and Temple Alley. Am out of energy. They saw me. Hurry.” She closed her eyes. The pulsating redness died down to a cool soft black.
“Ebony? Ebony! Can you hear me?”
“Mwerrr?” She woke with a massive headache. Running on empty was never a good idea, and only made for an unpleasant recovery. She opened one eye. It was okay. She was safe, at least, for the moment. She was in a room half-lit with candles. Deep shadows formed in mysterious corners. On some of the moist, lichen-ridden brick walls, maps had been hastily pinned up. At the end of the room was a bookcase filled with cobwebbed spines. There was a fireplace of old ashes, and to one side, a mattress and blanket. This minimalism was necessary. It allowed for an easy escape. All evidence must either be easily transported, or virtually invisible. Even in this forsaken part of the city, they always had to be careful. Their operation could not afford to be found.
“Can you walk?”
Ebony slowly moved to her feet, whilst leaning her arm on Camus’s shoulders. She was still weak. “Did you get the chip? I had it on me.”
“Yes I got it, but it doesn’t make a lot of sense. I am still decrypting it.”
They staggered towards the bookcase. Camus reached up and took a book off the top shelf, flipped to the last page and spoke an incomprehensible stream of words. The bookcase opened slowly of its own accord, without even dropping a book. They stumbled into a small room. The floor was stone, and in two seconds’ time, it started moving downwards. Eventually, it stopped.
Some more incomprehensible mumbling came from Camus’s lips, and a wall slid open. Inside was an immaculate laboratory, filled with machines of all shapes and sizes. Shiny metal gears, springs and pipes covered every surface – parts raided and stolen, cleaned up to former glory.
“I can’t believe we are this close to knowing The Message. The one script that keeps everyone under their power, doing their bidding, committing such inhumane acts,” said Ebony.
“We can’t get ahead of ourselves. Until I have cracked the code, we are no closer to stopping them. And now that they have seen you, we will need to create an identity dodge. They will be scouring the streets until they find you, or it. But for the moment, sit down. You still need to rest.”
He helped her to a chair, and then continued walking towards a large board of panels, buttons and levers. “It seems to be working, certain sections of the information coil are unraveling. This is promising.”
“So, once we have The Message, what do we do with it?”
“We decode it, and we create an antidote,” he said

concepts, next step will be the modeling and matte of the BG.
The city looks like it belongs in a very NIOR setting...like something from Blade Runner, or the club district in Attack Of The Clones. I'm almost expecting a huge blimp with advertising on it to be floating in the distant sky.... :D
I'm excited to see more!
Thanks man! Yes will be something between Blade Runner and Ghost in The Shell. And my main character is also a girl.

That Comp is looking quite good. Assuming you will be cleaning up the keyframes and brushing up the animation in flash later, I think this will turn out to be a strong entry.

Well done. Greate mood goingo on. I agree that intro looks a bit odd. It is the foreground that stays still and background that moves much more. At first I thought that ground in the middle of the screen stomps down. But after watching it few times now it looks as if foreground was a hill... It is a bit hard to explain.
It all looks great though. High quality images. I would love to see it all animated. I bet animation is the hardest part if you are doing it 2d. I am giving it two thumbs up
:thumbsup::thumbsup:
Thank you guys for the advise.I will make the movement more slow and just a little.Yes the hard part is 2D,but that is the FUN right!
Best to you guys!

Hello Adrian
Nice progress. Are you planing to add some caption to your last shot. Static camera is not a good choice, in my opinion rest of the scene (apart from car) looks dull in sense of motion and action. Maybe you could try some fast camera paning from left to right, simultaniously to the car motion?
Cheers!

Hey, really nice atmosphere you got going on here. Nice lighting. Would be nice to see a little more orange light on your characters from the main light source , It would help make them fit into the set. Maybe ease in when the car stops also, or add a little rock forward on the suspension as it stops. Really not a big deal though. Everything is looking great, I look forward to more.

Beautiful environments, Adrian! :buttrock:
These short clips maybe draw more focus to the animation, which I think could be better, but maybe you've intentionally picked this style/approach. I think with a longer clip with more scenes, the style will allow itself to be established better, so looking forward to seeing that.
Love the slow shot of the girl after she's smashed out of the glass. Maybe the water motion should be slower there as well? Not that it's looking too bad the way it is, though.
Keep it up!
Best regards, Varun
Thanks for the advise saeDubai !

wow.. looking impressive. the only thing that looks wierd is the fog because it is not there whene we look up at the building. It is a good way make it simple and hide all the details.
Well done.

Hi there, i thought id drop by and return the favour of your post on my entry.
Firstly loving the style, very cool stuff, beatiful shades in the skylines etc. colours overall are looking mint. My only critique at this point would be the animation on the characters, looking a tad wooden? maybe smooth these out a bit more and it would be nearing perfection...

Hey, cool stuff. I remember your uplift entry, good to see you're keeping at the 2d.
The girl's run looks a little wonky I think, right before she jumps through the window. Maybe just a little over-exaggerated?

Hey man,
I am glad that you are still working on it. It means that you will finish it on time.
I like that you decided to go 2D (mixe with 3D).
Judging from your progress at the beginning of the challange you should have a few minutes of animation by now.
Looking forwar to your update. Perhaps we can give you few tips, if there is still time for tweaks.

Amazing job, your bet with traditional animation is something admirable. The only thing that surprised me was the audio, something like Final Fantasy, I thought you were going to do something with more effects and action music but your choice is original.
Best wishes

Well done. congratulations on finishing. 2D animation entry is quite unusual on the forum and I like that you have combined it with 3d.
Good stuff.

hey adib,
Congrats for finishing another good work. Characters moved a bit too fast at some places, and overall it was a bit over saturated. But that's just me. ;)
Good luck with the judging.
