Hey guys ! :)

Basic Concept , well nothing very original here . Female secret agent infiltrating villain's base to rescue a famous people. The scene should take place in a church transformed into a operating room by terrorist.

Still thinking about base elements like composition or action , but the main lines should be it . Hope I will add some fancier stuff during the modeling.

Let me know what you guys think of

cheers ,

Hi,
wonderful gun, very clean modeling!

But I'm not shure about the "dragonfly-keyring" (missing the correct word!?) on the handle, looks a little inappropriate to me, makes it somehow look like something a girl has in her handbag :).

hi mate, here i post some feedback, i think she can look better using this guidelines , but ofcourse its your art, and probably your designs goes out of standards so theres a chance this image wont be useful at all :D

i hope this helps a bit , the nose and mouth are exellent i think., im not such and expert anyway lol. just trying to add my 2 cents friend.

hey Stephane,

looks good so far! i've got a few comments on the girls face and have made a little picture to show what i mean:
http://www.andersehrenborg.com/TEMP/17633_1246878323_medium.jpg

the eyelids around the tearduct area goes to deap into her face. normaly this area "goes out" rather than in. hard to explain with words, please see the image above and let me know if you want further clarification.
and the brow area, just check the picture. should'nt have to explain that with words.

looking forward to see more!

Zapan

Hey guys !

@ rraj : thx a lot man !

@ gpepper : you don't like it ? actually it has been less heavy than I thought for a pretty much convincing resutl I think , of course I didn't convert it to mesh yet so will see.

@ daWinky : ah thanks Sabie ! Glad it works better now. Well the next step is pretty annoying since I have to unwrap every little parts to correctly detailling and texturing in Zbrush so it should take a while. Although I probably posting some rough blocking of the composition.

@ walrus : hehe , thx a lot Micheal ! :)

@ rattlesnake : thx friend , actually that's not fast at all , the set up of the curves is darn long and boring process. The coffee machine is really hot lately.

@ fellah : hey mate , thx a lot to get time to do this! The eyelids bothered me too without really knowing what was the problem. I do now :) Will correct it right away.

So the unwrapping phase is not really interesting and really long so I not have a real update to share with you , but I may come up later with some blocking tests for composition , maybe I could get some great feedback and advices then. Thx again people !

cheers ,

Some test to settle down the scene. Point of view from the 1st floor.

The person sit in the back is the hostage. I hope the blocking is clear enough to understand the scene.

iiih, spooky! A half invisible agent - is her lower parts the secret ones? :D

I like your first version of the comp best. The angle from above is really dramatic. I suppose the floor angle would be better to show all the details yet to come but still I prefer the other one.

Looking forward to your updates!

that is looking exellent now - the new angle work well I think. She may need some more light to pop out... perhaps, if it's in a church you could give her some colored lighting as from through a stained glass window? Could add to the mystical feel.

Hi stephane. That's a huge progress since the last time I went here. Congrats. I like the whole composition and the quantity of details on your environment. Maybe can you gain a little picture at the top because I think that could be better if they were more space between the end of the gun and tu top part of the picture.

fellah
07-23-2009, 07:12 PM
looks great ! huge work.. a little thing that came to my mind is that the image feels a bit heavy to the left due to the foreground being so big/dark. kinda like you start looking at the agent and fall out to the right. and it might get even heavier when u add the agent.
you already have a good arc to the church that helps the viewer back into the image but in addition to that maybe you could add some foreground elements to the right side as well, just to keep it even more balanced. but then again, lighting and terrorist characters might help to balance it.

btw, thanks for your comment in my thread. u made a good point and i'm fixing it. i don't want to bump my thread to the top to say it so i'll say it here :)

looking forward to see the progress!

Hey man!!! It's looking great so far. I think you could loose the set of ceilling lights closest to the agent (or maybe turn the lights off on them). I think it will give a cleaner view of what's happening down the church. Good luck with the rest of the modeling and texturing.

fellah
07-25-2009, 12:44 PM
yep you're right it works good like this, no need for more FG elements. the table with rifles(that you moved, or camera changed) now serves like a pointer back into the image as well as the things you mentioned.
althouth i feel the lighting is to flat/same everywhere. i would prefer a darker mood, having the candles and moonlight outside light up the room.

i did a paintover to show some ideas:
http://www.andersehrenborg.com/TEMP/25july2009_ZapanPaintover.jpg

it's just a rough to give some ideas. i think you should to darken either the foreground(agent) or the "happening".
i would prefer putting the agent in dark(as she is hiding in the dark, not in the light) and having the candles more towards orange in color and have them cast a bit of orange rimlights everywhere. but it's just pointers, I hope it might give you some ideas!

Gunilla
07-25-2009, 04:18 PM
Steph, I sware sometimes when I see your modeling I wish I where you :scream:

Looking splendid all the way. Comp works well for me but I think Anders has some good pointers about making the lighting less uniform. Maybe having really warm orange lights on her and bluish for the room? But I hold my final comments on that until I see ut fully textured, maybe the variations will be clearer then. Splendid work, ol' chap!

@ mic : thx a lot man ! Yeah the lighting give me a lot of trouble . Fellah made a good point about contrasting lights then having the middle church in the light. Will probably more a way like he suggested . Hope you'll agree with that direction.

@ fellah : I hate you :p ! this kind of lighting fit perfectly in the scene. So frustrating to spend hours of testing when you come up with the right one in ten seconds. :D . Anyway , I saved the pic and I will keep it religiously ... Thank you big time

It's really nice to see mosquito finally composited against the background with all the stuff in it! :) I see your point about having the lights tie together the foreground and the background, but that big chandelier in the center - the closer one - takes up so much space and blocks so much! What if you ditched that one, just left an dangling chain, and kept the far one? You couldn't have to worry so much about a bunch of lights, no matter what their color, in the center of the composition. I do like the mood of Fella's paintover, though... but even then, not having those lights of the whole fixture there could be less distracting. Either way, good luck with it!

@ walrus : thx a lot man , I totally see your doubts about the chandelier , it bothered me a lot too after seeing the overall comp from far . I scaled it down and lower it to minimize it a bit , can't figure if it's better (to much time watching that pic ) ... I will state that part for a while and concentrate on the rest of the scene and see if I got new ideas ( maybe different shape , less heavy but more light sources maybe even on the walls , no real ideas yet ... )

@ Pencracker : thx a lot man , love your entry !

Still try to solve some issues on that lighting , but I think it's a way better start point ... but as I said , I will focus to finish the scene (Secondary characters and textures on the center ) We'll see if some clever ideas concerning the lights show up during the week. Of course any ideas and suggestions is more than welcome ...

Okay, I'm coming in really late on this one, but, WOW! It's looking fantastic. I love all that stuff cluttering up the downstairs area too, because that just seems to make it seem more believable.

I like that foreground chandelier a lot too. Normally, chandeliers are things we look up at, not down on. And that little difference seems to add something, like it somehow makes her seem a little bit more dangerously high up. I'm not explaining myself well here, but the short explanation is that I really like it.

I agree with the comments suggesting putting in some sort of lighting from her left, either rim lighting as walrus suggested or else just some other thing to make her stand out a bit more.

This is looking fantastic. Just wonderful

Nice to see this with all of the characters in it, Stephane, it's really starting to look alive! IO think that you could still do a little tweaking of the enemy placement though: Right now the 5 or them are arranged in a sort of circle, a perfectly ringing the big blank white spot on the floor. If I didn't know better, I'd have said that, with the light value of the floor (drawing attention to it) and the way the enemies are all placed around but not in that circle, you had yet to stick the Big Boss right in the center there. Looks like a perfect place for one! But if there is none, maybe shuffling their locations more so you're not leaving a big blank white spot in the center there. Maybe just more the bottom walking guy more up into it? Just an idea... keep it coming. Good luck!

Zapan
08-03-2009, 03:35 PM
@ Irawan : Yes , the values and contrast of the lighting need a lot of tweaking . Most of them will be fixed with Photoshop as post processing , faster and easier to get what I want. Thx for stopping by !

@ walrus : Ahah , thx a lot Michael ! A very good point , didn't realize it either. In fact , at first I thought adding the big cheese of the crew , unfortunatly , I won't have the time to create a different looking character , so I'm afraid I will stick with these 5 . Anyway , I kinda like the walking one split by the foreground barrier so I will probably move the Rocket one to the right to put the "real danger" in the light. Will rearrange that tonight before launching the final renders ... Thank you big time for all your help.

Hi Stephane,

Great work and display. I really like this one. A suggestion, the candles light in the background should be less intense than the one in the front. Lower the entensity and the lighting will be focused more on the character. Then add some fog or dust particles in the background then your character will be focused upon. I hope this helps, take care for now.

mdavid
08-04-2009, 12:51 AM
Amazing work. I love it. The foreground lighting works superbly now.

Seeing work which is this good, I feel a bit nervous about suggesting anything at all, and so I offer an idea which you must feel free to ignore! The only thing which I think might be improved, which might at the same time help with the lighting, is the colour of the walls and floor. If they were changed into a warm timber colour - a lighter version for the floor and a slightly darker version for the walls (or the other way around) then the whole scene would have a consistent warmth throughout it that would perfectly match the lighting. But like I said, feel free to ignore this, and it might be too late anyway!

There is so much stuff to love about this image. In my opinion it perfectly captures the whole secret agent theme. Bravo!

Hi stephane. the new lighting is great. It's surely a bit lake (I'm on holiday so I haven't much time to follow all the posts) but I find the pose of the guys a bit too static (peut etre du aux bras trop ecartes) and maybe their position a little too mathematic, it makes like a square.

@ ajitmenon : Thx a lot , don't expect that much on the post FX , it will a lot depends on the spare time I will have before the deadline , altough it will be most of tweaking and bug fixing like the light fog , color corrections and values etc ...

@ ShogunWarrior : thx man, about the lights I planned to tweak them independently , the 2 of them are rendered in different passes . Fog on the background is also planned , altough I don't know yet if PS work will do or if I will have to render an extra pass from maya. thx for suggesting !

@ MartinNielsen : thx man, yeah I changed some of it and probably PS will do a lot on that ...

@ authentic : ah , thx a lot Vincent , unfortunately , I won't be able to change the characters poses , as the image is rendering right now , but right before launching I changed some of their position to put more the Rocket on in the middle , hope it will appears a bit less square like. You're definitely on your way here. I think perhaps you could do something about the floor texture. The color and lightness of the floor, cloth and props are now a bit too similar. Maybe just darken the floor a bit or give it a hint of a tint (hint of a tint - that sounds like the name of a cool rock band!) Anyway, hope you get what I mean.

Now, go on wrapping this beauty up!

Looking great, Stephane!
I thin the image is a bit too saturated? If it's a night/ dark room, it will be way less saturated and tinted blue. The candle chandelier will definitely give it a bit of glow within the fall-off of it's light.... but I think it should be less than what you see now.
I wish there was some texture on the architectural features though...
Nice job though!

I like how you've rearranged the bad guys at the bottom - That's a lot more effective at filing in the space! The mmd is feeling nice, but I especially love the interesting interplay of cool and warm colors that you get in the top and left half of the image. Personally, I'd love to see you bring more of that color down into the ground level of the place, as the greens and oranges set a nice mood and the clean whites are more emotionless and have less visual impact, imho. Good luck with the rest!

The European secret services tried to dismantle a bio-terrorism threat. They always failed because of their abilities to change their operating locations.
Some people says that they are implanted in several countries over the world.
They sent their best agent to investigate and eliminate the source. She has no ID as every member of the Agency , only her codename MOSQUITO is known from the rest of the services , raised and trained to serve the Agency as a bee , she stings and die.

Done !!!

I'm sure it could be improved , but at this stage , I kinda like the result and I rather prefer leave it like this instead testing and undo every minutes.

I want to thank everybody here , for all the unvaluable help and support you provided me during 8 weeks , and also a big thank to cgsociety for the best cg event.

Wish you all the best luck for the rest of the competition , a lot of gorgeous work out there , and I hope to see you all in a future one!

Massive hugs and best of luck and thx again !

cheers ,

Bravo! That's a fantastic image. I love it. It works beautifully as a complete composition in low resolution and then rewards the viewer even more as you zoom in to those close-ups. It fits the theme perfectly too - summing up in a glance the whole secret agent genre and that achievement alone is mighty impressive. Your craft in modeling Mosquito has been wonderful too. Congratulations and good luck
