Got a little late this time around.Have been playing around a few ideas. This is the first concept i came up with.Still needs to work on it to gt it right. All crits are welcome.

I like your concept. There is still time.

Good luck.

Thanks Blas.

I was going along this idea for a while: Animals as spies, adds a certain something to it.I am thinking of other possibilities as well along the same theme. But also I was thinking about the more conventional Female spy/agent trapped in a tight spot scenario as well as a more periodical cloaked rider /mistery theme too.I'l post my rough ideas soon.

Cheers!

Nice, reminds me of that new movie that just came out called G-Force.

edit: wait, you can't fool me. I saw that critter on the poster.

prabath
06-29-2009, 06:53 AM
Well, I wasnt trying to fool anyone.A friend of mine showed me the trailer when i told him my idea and that;s how i got a reference to do my rough sketch. But I knew people might see it this way.like I said its just a first idea and I painted it last night. I would very much like to see the poster you said Dale. It will be a good reference. Please post it if you can.

Cheers!

I was only playing about the fooling part.

Here's the image I was talking about :)

I look forward to seeing your progress.

Here's another concept I was working for the challenge. It's a rough idea on the animal spy theme. I wanted to explore the underwater theme here with a dolphin as a trained agent/unit carrying out military'sabotage type operations. All crits and suggestions are welcome.

I like the thinking, Prabath. They did train dolphins to do that sort of thing didn't they? Great start.

prabath

Seems to me the dolphin idea has more promise.Have to make it more thechy of course.Lots of nifty gear I mean. And a cocky thumb's up.but does anyone know how to make a dolphin give a thumb's up?!Well, looks like I' have my work cut out for me there.

@Nick: Yup, I think they did... for surveilance and recon stuff, I believe.Would come in very handy if they had real offensive/sabotage capabilities too, dont you think.

@Rashi: Passed out last year Bro. Arts faculty. Just had the convocation... few weeks back?Yup,have to make it more appealing, more debris, fish, gadjets...etc. So many possibilities with all these ideas I have in mind. Could stretch it 10 miles in any direction.

More posts soon.

Cheers!

yea the dolphin one looks promising, the scene just looks...well... empty. I feel like you need to start filling it up with stuff like maybe a school of fish or something? Is it going to be all 2d concept or are you going to be shooting for some 3d? Look forward to seeing the progress on this one!

prabath
07-01-2009, 08:49 AM
Thanks for the suggestions Aleksander.Yup I know it looks empty. It's just a 30 min sketch from last night. Lot of work to be done definitely. I'm doing some pencil sketches to see what I could add and to get an idea of how far I could push it without obscuring the look of things.it's a bit tricky you know. As for your other question, my plan is to keep it 2D since I don't have much brawn on the 3D side of things.

Here's a more classic themed concept from me.Just wanted to depict a female spy character in some kind of tight situation.Just a rough pose sketch. All crits are welcome.

Thanks Nick. But it seems I've gotten myself in trouble here. I'm a bit torn between the Dolphin idea and this now. As a friend and fellow professional, what's your stand on it.Tough call for me. Let me know what you think.Could go either way for me. Since there's a bit more time, think I'll plod on with both ideas for now.

OK, so I decided to stick with the dolphin idea from earlier. Took some time out cause there was a hell of a lot of work at office too. finally finished the whole dolphin. now I have to match it to the concept shot and amp it up with gadgets and tools. all C&C are most welcome.

A dolphin?!? Are you sure you aren't just using leftover models from the Uplift Challenge? ;)
Good luck!

prabath
07-13-2009, 09:58 AM
Hey Michael, thanks for the comments friend. I didn't join the uplift challenge. What was it's relation to this. By the way, the dolphin isn't a model. Done in Photoshop all the way. Did you see the concept I did. With the exploding sub. It needs a lot of work. Good luck to you too.

Cheers!

It was a joke, Prabath: The Uplift Challenge had to do with David Brin's Uplift universe in which dolphins are sentient. Probably a third of all entries featured dolphins of some sort, so everyone else got really tired of them by the end of that challenge. It's hard not to see a dolphin Challenge entry without thinking back to all the dolphins that were done earlier. But nice work on this one: I thought it was 3D, which speaks well of your rendering skills. Good luck!

prabath
07-13-2009, 01:48 PM
Hey Michael, thanks for clearing that up for me. I was just curious to know about that challenge. Sorry, I didn't know about the dolphin problem :banghead: . Was hoping to create something uncommon for the secret agent thing. The dolphin idea came out really good. Thanks for the comments on the rendering. I had a quite a blast with it.

Cheers mate!

So, 2 weeks to go.Great to see all the wonderful ideas coming together. Just about finished with the dolphin here. A few more appendages here and there to go in to it & I can move to the background.Hope this looks remotely decent. All the best to all my fellow artists.

Yes angel, your powers of observation serve you well.Feng has been a huge inspiration in my work. You may have also seen that I have acknowledged it.Just wanted to see how my critter sits in with this great design.Still I'm working on something more militaristic for the sub. You can see it below.

Here's the final image for my entry. It's been a lot of work. So here's crossing my fingers. Agent Echo is a specially trained cyborg dolphin developed under a top secret government research program as a military infiltration/reconnaisance unit. The picture depicts Echo fleeing the scene after a job well done, closely pursued by a robotic drone launched from the sub.

All the best for my fellow artists & a heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported me.

Software: Photoshop

This is my final image entry for the Secret Agent Challenge. It was done completely in Photoshop CS2. It took me a lot of time to just come up with a solid concept for the challenge. After a while I settled on the Animals-as- spies/agents theme. With the theme set, I experimented with various ideas like fish, birds, rodents. Of all the ideas Icame up with, The Dolphin idea stood out. Then I proceeded with a few references of dolphins and underwater lighting to get the look and feel of the image right. With a lot of trial and experimentation I came to the final concept shot I created.

Hey there, sorry I haven't had time to drop in - been really busy on my own piece, y'know? Nice work on this. Great mood and I love that explosion! (Wish I could paint one like that - how did you do it? It just suddenly appeared in your painting finished!)

Oh get out of here Michael. Bet you could paint an explosion twice as good. It wasn't painted all the way. Started with some layer effects and used some photo refs as well. Also used some custom brushes for the debris.Actually the one day between the two post(one without the explosion and the one with it) I spent whole on this little thing.Knew I had to nail it right and quick.Glad you like it friend.

Cheers!

p.s. I'll do a tiny break up of a trick I use for painting explosions soon and post it here.

Sorry it took me a while to get back here. I saw Leigh's post in General Discussion about users not thanking people who they asked advice from and I immediately rememberred to return to this thread.

Now my jaw is on the floor... You used a cauliflower?! It's a vegetarian explosion!?! That's just incredible! I mean, a totally brilliant use of unrelated photo-reference. I thoroughly applaud you, sir, both for just doing that at all, but also for taking the time to show how you did it. Thanks! Truth be told, I feel that I'm really lousy at painting anything having to do with fire or flames or anything like that. Doesn't stop me from trying - I had tons of flames in my latest Dominance War entry - but I'm never too satisfied with them. Thanks for the tip... and congrats again on a nice piece!
