first off, i'm an idiot. How do I apply Mental ray shaders to an object?

Select an object, then apply a fresh clean shader (Blinn, Lambert, whatever) to it. Now select the materials's Shading Group either in Hypershade or by clicking the downstream button (upstream?) in the Attribute Editor. Unroll the mental ray shaders and you'll see slots for all kinds of things there.
Here's where you click to get the to Shading Group:
And here's where you put the MR shaders:

i apprciate it very much. some of them you can just apply like regular maya shaders, but some u can't, thanks again.
