Actually it sais:
Activision admits that this matter is entirely in id's hands, but that they are not expecting the game this year, and have it "penciled" on their calendars for fiscal Q4 (Jan-March) 2004.' Additionally, Quake IV is now due in Fiscal 2005 (which begins April 2004)."
Meaning both games will still be planned for 2004...Doom 3 close to Q4 of 2003...
The dates mentioned are fiscal dates...
Then again, it might be just two other 'Duke Nuke'm Whenever' games
ugh. Well here's to hoping that HL2 is on time!! :D
Valve will have practically no competition now.

by now i'm beginning to think that ID does this deliberately. they always seem to totally miscalculate developement time.. last year in may they said they didn't want the game to see more than one E3 ;)
now it'll be 3. maybe this is a marketing strategy, they knew that people wouldn't stop anticipating the game even if they knew about it 3 years before release

Whew! To think I was just about to order a new PC. I can wait a while now.

Personally, I don't mind it, I wasn't going to buy either of them. I wasn't going to crack up my system either ;)

Everyone's waiting for HL2 to come out so they know where to focus their programming energies just to remain competetive.

isnt this like the...umpteen time ID has posponed doom 3?
i read something awhile ago saying ID pushed it back in like 2002 to some date, and now this. this is so ridiculas. i dont know if postponing it any longer is going to help. i was really really excited, i figured it would be someint out sometime before december, not its a year from then...i just dont care right now.
