View Full Version : Fluids question
Piflik 06-10-2009, 07:07 PM First I have to say I have nearly no knowledge of Blender.
I have a little animation in mind with a raindrop hitting a leaf, interact with already present water on that leaf and then roll off the leaf continuing its descend into a puddle.
Is anyone her who can tell me if (and how ;)) this is possible using Blender Fluids and other dynamics (for the leaf reacting to the drop's impact)?

Nice idea!
And I'd say, that it can be done.
Here's the short and highly simplified version:
Use the game engine to animate the physics part -- that is, a proxy for the water drop hitting the leaf --, and record to IPO.
Then set the leaf to be an obstacle in the fluid sim, add a fluid object exactly where the water drop proxy is, and carefully time the end-time settings of the domain, so that the water drop falls with the same speed its proxy does. BAKE!
Finally, remove the proxy, set up materials and render.
Umm, it's actually not quite as easy as it sounds, especially since you have little to no Blender knowledge. ;)
But with enough effort you put into it, you might come up with something not that shabby for a first try.
Good luck!
... Oh, and please post some results :)

Yeah...I thaught it wouldn't be easy...also I hoped to export it to Max and render there...found a nice script for this...don't know if it works yet...;)
The leaf thing is actually only part of the animation, but the rest I can do in Max ;). I will definately show it (if I get something presentable ;)).
I wished Blender wasn't all that strange (at least for me...). It looks so powerfull, yet I am unable to use it...Hopefully with 2.5 it will be better...
Anyway, thanks for your input. I will try and then ask again if (or rather when ;)) it doesn't work.

you have the tools you need.
This should give you some ideas:

Blob mesh was the first thing I tried, but it is not convincing.
