View Full Version : Ugly malformed fish
JamesMK 07-22-2003, 11:36 PM Oh, I'm stuck in some sort of tech-block here, so I can't get myself back to working on my short just yet...
I am definitely starting to get comfortable with Cinema - have been practicing quite a lot of rigging, TP and general modeling (soooo many neat tools, only got to get used to them)...
Anyway, this renderer is seriously lovable! I was really bored, so I decided to make an ugly fish - and even though I basically did everything wrong on this one (I promise: it's a total hack), it still turned out as quite a decent render. Amazing software....

good to see you getting use out of your package, are you on a mac or pc?
model a grinning fat head to go in the middle of it. now that would make a good render.
Nice and i believe james mk is on a PC.
if my sources are correct that is.

LOL Im so immature :)
Its very good, I just notice 2 things... One theres some texture streching and two there are two interseavting teeth right at the top. Other than that good job, it would be cool to see more veiws though :).

ehhegghh nnnehhehhe... dude, he said "package".... :D
Yeah, I'm on a PC. And I'll get back with more views when I do some serious modeling, because this thing is really bad. Good idea to put a head in there, though.
Thanks for commenting, guys. I promise to show some real stuff next up.

Can we see the ugly wire for the ugly fish? :D

Ugly wire? Sure. I'm in the wrong place right now (far away from my files), but I could put something up later today. If nothing else, the wire will prove what a hack I can be sometimes :)

Heh heh, I guessed it!
Seriously, it won't reveal much. I made the basic volume for it using lofts, and converted to mesh without even checking the resolution first, so it's pretty dense.

me i like it !
its true this fish is ugly, but thats why its good :)
it reminds me a fish that actually exists, the anglerfish

@jamesMK: i think, if you'd loose the right half of the fish and mirror the left side, you could go for something shark-like. (infected by the 'finding nemo-bug')
besides the streching of it, i really like your textures! the teeth are awsome!

Really cool, I like the non-symmetrical nature.
Is it designed solely for a front shot? Got other views?

geespot:: here's an ugly wire for ya!
deestrakt:: that's some ugly fish thingies! My lord, the awfulness nature hides in the darkness of the deep blue sea... :D
cosmicbear:: I actually started out with a shark in mind (some of the banners here at cgtalk has a shark in it. However, I spaced out... ;)
squidinc:: One eye is good. Also saved me the trouble of mirroring and thus having to "unsymmetrize" again =)
smoke:: It's a front-shot only design (or lack thereof). As I said, it's a pure hack coming from boredom and about 30 minutes of modeling time. The unsmoothed wire below proves this --->

deestrakt:: I forgot - the material on the teeth is really straightforward: Standard stuff, only one linear gradient controlling the transparency (more transparent towards the tip of the teeth), and another gradient in the color channel (adding some subtle redness on the tips)
