View Full Version : Exporting geometry only from Maya 5.0 to Maya 4.5

Hi,

I have a scene I've created in Maya 5.0. All the geometry is simply NURBS and doesn't use any features that are new to Maya 5.0, other than mental ray settings which can certainly be dropped for the export if possible. I just need to be able to make this scene for a tutorial available to be opened in Maya 4.5. Would I be able to export to a Maya Ascii and just change the version number? I don't have access to a machine with Maya 4.5 on it, so I can't really test it. :-/

Any suggestions? I tried searching the forums for previous answers, but search word length restrictions stopped that fast.

Thanks

Mike

Yes, save the file as an ascii. Then you can delete the first few lines that say 5.0 (in a text editor) on them and it should open.

ya could export it as an obj (though it only exports once object at a time)

Save 5.0 scene as .ma file

Open .ma file with wordpad

Change //Maya ASCII 5.0 scene to //Maya ASCII 4.5
scene

Delete lines that says “requires Maya5.0’

Save

Always works for me
