Duties Include:
Character Animation and Setup, Lightning R/D
Focusing mainly on the main Character's character animation, while adding new elements to the existing rig for secondary animation. See below for the full breakdown.

Hand Animated Lightning:
This spot had hand animated lightning. I developed an Animation Rig specifically for controlling the lightning, which was hand animated in Maya by other members on the team. The final result in the spot was achieved with Paint Effects and various post work. The test shown below is simply a nurbs extrude along the output curve.

Hand Animated Explosion:
For the Truck Shot's explosion, we toyed with doing a heavy post effect atop a 3d animation, however, the graphic Novel elements later replaced that and several other animated sequences.

Breakdown

My Primary Tasks:

Majority of the character Animation
Cole Character Rig, massive overhaul, secondary, facial, corrective shapes
Electricity setup / tool
Minor touch up on other rigs, camera work, previs
Various environmental animation
Shot 1: Discover powers

Character Animation, setup, lighting rig (no lightning anim)
Sh2: Train fight

Animation, setup on cole and modifications to the reapers, lightning rig (no anim)
Right before his upper cut connects, I did all of coles animation (hand keyed), then a seemless blend back into the mocap, from there I did the facial, fingers, and secondary for the remaining
Sh3: Paper Jump

Paper ripple effect/animation
I had an entire landing animation cut out for that graphic novel page instead
Second panel all hand keyed
Top vista shot all hand keyed + camera work, (didn't do lightning)
Jump down all hand keyed + camera, (didn't do lightning), again lost half of the animation to graphic novel treatment
Sh4: Truck flip

Mocap cleanup/mirror (since they flipped the image in post), fingers, facial, secondary, redid end pose per client request
Lost all reaction to truck crashing to ground to the graphic novel
Rig / bind touch up on civilians
Sh5: Walk lock up

All hand keyed, camera, facial
Environment anims: flies around dumpster, dumpster lid, papers in alley, boxes in alley, moths around street light, power lines swaying
lightning rig, no anim

great work again kiel. like the lightning rig. some of the weight feels off though. 'specially the jump off the sign feels poppy. and your personality doesnt shine through as well as most of your other work.

Great project to work on; im playing the game, and loving it!

Hey Kiel,

Great work as usual! Love the stylized explosion...thanks for posting the playblast of it since the details get lost a bit in the final composite.

Damn that looks really good, great style.

Would love to see a proper high res version, I bet a lot of the nice detail gets lost in youtube compresion.

Thanks guys, glad your liking it.

Grury: Yeah, the youtube compression isn't all that. The HD version is SO nice, unfortunatly, being a freelancer, I was unable to get the uber res version. The MPC version is a bit less compressed:

Ivan: Thanks man, glad you like. Would have been really cool to have a few more days r/d to get that explosion tight. Was slowly developing a process to make it more modular and to randomize the chunks and chaos elements. Till next time though, lesson learned.

Abaz: The lightning rigged saved the lighting team quiet a bit of headache, so I was glad to have played a part there. Ironically, I never acutually animated the lightning for the final spot. I hear you on the weight being off on that jump. It was a mixture of feedback and overkill. The timing had to stay the same as the previs, while the lighting coming off the hands were a bit of an after thought. Hopefully the next time, I can infuse a bit more personality and get some more snappyness in there.

Remi: Thanks man, came out well, really pleased. The stuff on my site is pretty secondary, more "behind the scenes" then production quality content. Enjoy.

Addy: Thanks!

Glad you guys liked it, have a good one.

Awesome work man. Loved it when I saw it on the TV and was wondering who was responsible.
