You have 100 Minutes to model an Orrery or anything related. In case you're wondering what an Orrery is...and lord knows I did here's a link to the wiki entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orrery

We'll hope to run this no longer than 7 days, but if someone needs a day maybe two, just post up and let us know.

The requirements will be a wireframe and a PROGRAM STANDARD shaded view screen-capture. Then, after you have that, you can feel free to provide a beauty render. Please try to keep to just one render, but if you feel like you need more to show it off, provide a link to your photobucket image or wherever you have it hosted, posting the whole image, just to kind of save space.

Also, we should try to post only the thumbnail links, to make it easier on everyone viewing from slower connection to smaller monitors. Just something to keep in mind.

This was all I managed to put inn. By the way, I used an image as reference, is that cheat?
Sorry, but I dont know how to get thumbnail.

Its tough to get what you want done in 100 mins. That's looking good, especially for a first effort. And regarding references, that's not cheating. If you want to use a reference, go nuts. Nice work.

reference is strongly recommended actually. I mean, how can you design something efficiently without having good ideas down on paper and to help guide your finished product?

I use reference material for even the easiest of things sometimes, because it never hurts to be "accurate".

I took the full 100 min on this one. This is actually my first post on CGSociety (I think) ever. This challenge has proved very useful for me, to say the least, and will be here for the next challenge.

I'm not sure, but I think I have to wait after my 2nd post to put up attachments :?

Here's the link to them.

Edit: Links should work now, added reference.

wow, big red. you must have some efficient modeling techniques haha.

This is a pretty good challenge, a lot of good entries, but I think most will agree, big red really has kind of stolen the show haha.

I'd agree with that. The bar has been set I suppose :)

Animasta, holy heck. 15 min? I mean...I can see how it is possible. One thing that eludes me is how you made the bended tubes so fast.

I used the 'magic bevel' tool in Lightwave to do this. Basically, anywhere you drag the mouse, it'll bevel to that location.

I've had these done for a while, but I've been real busy. Just now getting around to posting. Not happy at all with it, but with the time I had to do it in, about 45 minutes to 50, I kind of had to roll with it.
