Hi! I'm doing a little animation now involving a little creature flying along a designated trajectory (keyframed manually) and I'm having a hard time getting it to rotate properly so it seems like its looking the way its heading. I guess I'll just have to animate it using a path and the follow function which seems an easier option right now but I need my character to stop at certain positions and hover for a while... how would I manage this?

Many thx! Carl

You could just keyframe the path percentage. You can also play with the curves in the curve editor.

Keep in mind also that the default controller for the "percantage along path" is 'linear' as of max 5. So to play around with the curves you'll need to first change it to a bezier controller.

Also if you want the hover to not be restricted to the path (ie drift in 3d space) then you could put a list controller on the position then put your path constraint in the first slot and a bezier (or pos xyz) controller in the second slot. This will allow you to animate the creature away from the path. OR you could put a noise/wave controller in the second slot to automate the drift and then just animate the weight of the controllers for the position list.

hope that gives you some ideas,

cheers,
phil
