View Full Version : Project Drakendrecht
kyubus 06-07-2009, 08:48 PM Hi everyone. I'm working on a Action (j)RPG by myself and I'd really like to hear feedback on my project throughout the development. It will have topdown old-school 2D action. With 3D prerenderd graphics.
This is the main character I'm currently working on:

I'd be glad to share more of my project later on ;]

I like the character very much... especially the watercolour nature of the texture... I hope that is to stay and not just a wip look :)
Looking forward to some environment!
Keep at it!

Well I think the character looks nice and I look forward to seeing more of your project.
I dont want to be rude, but the character looks like a child with a beard

I had a beard at a young age and could beat anyone with armwrestling. So i have full confidence that this character can beat up some bad looking dragons :D.
Nice stuff, what engine are you gonna use? Are you gonna code and model everything by yourself? Huge project would be fun to follow this thread.

Thanks everyone :) But please make your criticism constructive. i love top-down camera games. maybe so many fun SNES memories burned in my brain. Me too, I think that's part of the reason I started this project.
Anyway here he is animated. I really don't like rigging, it went terrible. Animating is kinda fun, but I'm not really good at it.

:) why doesn't he move his head or his body? is there a reason or just because it is too hard right now. Anyway I think the motion on the arms and legs is nice and fluent so that is a very good start.
Remember that the hips move with the legs... the leg you stand on pushes the hip up on that side... shoulders move opposite the legs and hips with the arms... head bobs up and down slightly to stay focussed on the way he is going.
If using max check the autowalk for character studio to see how a natural walk could look like or for hip and shoulder movement you can watch your pet walking... humans basicly move the same but then standing up :p
Keep up the good work!

Here's some small tips that will make your run look totally fab ;)
Lean the character forward
Make sure his COG (center of gravity) is balanced.
More extreme and balanced limbs
Shoulder and pelvis do almost always counter eachother.
Make him go up and down by the force of his legs pushing him up and the gravity pulling him down.
The character looks great btw! I love the style!

I'm grateful, thank you for the help. I will reset and try again to animate him.
Meanwhile I completed my first environment:

It's suppose to be a hotel room, not anything exciting. But I thought it'd be good start.
