View Full Version : Fur: can't use texture to control attributes

Somehow I cannot control the 'baldness' attribute of a fur descriptor with a texture map. When I connect the texture map to the attribute the fur isn't visible at all when rendering.

Maya is calculating a long time before the render so I guess it is still doing something with the fur.
I've tried using a RGB texture and a grayscale version, with both the TGA and TIFF format. No luck there.
The object does have good UV coordinates, when I map the texture it is displayed correctly.

I know it is possible, what am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance!

you are baking the texture into the baldness channel after you plug your image into it right?

Brilliant, pressing the 'bake' button made it work! Thanks for the tip, I would have never found that sneaky button without you :)

yep, make sure that any time you are plugging a custom texture into any of those fur attribute channels, you "bake" them in, otherwise life becomes oh so frustrating. Glad I could help. Good luck with the fur stuff man (or woman, whichever may apply . . . :) )
