Hiya,

Im really interested in buying C4D 8.1 because at the moment I havn't got my own version, and am interested in it for a hobby and not commercial reasons.

My finacial income is not that good so I thought about buying the core version, then I looked at all the modules that I would have missed. I basically want MOCCA, TP, PyroCluster, Dynamics and Adcanced Render, because as a hobbyist, I like to play around with the better tools.

I just can't decide what to do, I want the Bundle version but I want to swap the C4DNET with dynamics (because bundle dont come with dynamics right?), I have absolutley no reason for the C4DNET.
So my ideal c4d package would include MOCCA/Dynamics/TP/Pyrocluster/AR

now im thinking about buying the core version with the Advanced Renderer and MOCCA module, and slowly buy serperate modules as the months pass by.

I Just dont know what to do

Any hobby C4D'rs here that as been in the same dialemma I am in? What did you do?

XL bundle (should keep you occupied for a long time) and Dynamics later. Isnīt buying the XL bundle cheaper than Standard + seperate modules along the way - even if you get Net with it?

And, well... the standard: wait for Siggraph.

You can save some money if you have (or can find) version 5SE - it was given out free on many magazines last year, and can be upgraded to 8 or an 8 package with a good saving (Ģ300 or more)

I bought the XL bundle with Bodypaint, but I would have liked Dynamics, and would have more use for that than MOCCA I think.

The only way to get the lot, and save money overall, would be the Studio bundle, but it is an outlay if you are a hobbyist and don't have a previous version to upgrade from.

I second Pit's recommendation--go with the XL Bundle. I'm not a Dynamics user, but from what I've seen and read, it ain't that great. It's also been out for a while, so it might be due for an overhaul in the next year or so. Hope so anyway.

In any case, call Maxon and see if maybe they won't agree to a NET/Dynamics swap. Worst thing can happen is they say no.

I just read on another thread about an academic version of C4D, and modestmouse said it means I can't sell anything I make with it.

As i want C4D for a hobby only, and have no plans to sell anything I make (bascially because im not good enough to sell things), Would the academic version be any good?

Do you get any modules or there any limitations for it? I couldnt find any mention of academic on the maxon site.

the academic-version is basicly the XL-bundle without the printed manuals.

but i think, you have to be a student to meet the requirements to get it

yeah i looked into getting the academic version but as i am going to start using cinema for profit i had to go with the commercial. anyways as i was looking into the academic version i found that one must be enrolled in a college and must get student id and schedule of courses enrolled. maybe you could take a class and then order the academic version. you might learn some things that you didn't know along the way. good luck with your choice.

p.s. the dynamics module is very good compared to other software's dynamics packages. although it is very difficult to learn and i do not find myself using it that much. plus just an idea but rigid bodies can be simulated in thinking particles to an extent. and cloth dynamics are easily simulated with soft ik bones. just a few more things to think about, like you didn't have enough choices to make. anyways making a good choice with cinema no matter what.

Right now greenworks is offering some really great XFrog 4 - Cinema 4d bundles (makes me wish I'd waited a couple of weeks before purchasing Cinema). If you have XFrog 3.5, you can get a bundle with XFrog 4 and Cinema Base for $599. For another $100 you can add on the Advanced Render module. There's some other combinations as well, and I think they'll make up special bundles for you. I'd copy/paste the email here for you (from yahoo XFrog group), but it's on my other computer.

I ordered my academic version from journeyed.com AND got printed manuals (thank god). I believe as long as you are enrolled in anything that will get you a student id you can order it from there (no required hours, class schedule or anything like that). It's the XL bundle and the only limitation is the license which states you can't sell anything you make with it (as was stated earlier). At $300 it was a really sweet deal for such a fine piece of software.

maybe journeyed.com has changed their policies, because a few years ago when i ordered some things from there i had to include a picture id and class schedule. its cool to hear that things have become more lenient.

you can just do it directly through maxon I don't know why people go to journey ed anyway.

Doesn't really make sense to me.

What do they require you to do to order the academic version of cinema 4D?

Maxon has discontinued their direct sales to people not affiliated with a Cinema 4D training program or class. In other words, just being qualified for academic purchases is not enough. That's why some poeple go through journeyed. I just cancelled an order with journeyed to order directly from Maxon, and that's how I found out.

Just an fyi kinda thing.

Cheers,
