View Full Version : Sorrows of a Geisha
PhoenixFlame 06-05-2009, 05:18 PM Hi all!
I was just wondering if someone could point out any current problems with this painting. I havn't gone into detail yet as I want to spot problems first. I'm mostly concerned about the anatomy and background. Any help is welcome.
Thanks a lot! (-:

It looks like a good start! Don't see any problems with the anatomy. but I would consider flipping the pic and working on the composition that way before things get set in stone. It doesn't seem quite as balanced flipped, and that usually needs to be addressed to make the comp as strong as it can be. Maybe a low-hanging branch?

Thanks thejeff! Good point, flipping it completely escaped my mind! Yeah a low-hanging branch could work... I'll get on to it!

Here's an update! I've altered parts after flipping and have played with the background a bit. If anyone has any tips on backgrounds this would be appreciated (-:

It's a beautiful picture and she's a beautiful girl, but she doesn't look japanese to me. Is that intended?

Thanks for all the support everyone! (-:
Domaris: I've been trying to make her look more japanese. I'll post some updates later on today. I'm wondering whether it's just the face or the whole body. I suppose when you constantly draw westerners it becomes habit!

It was just the face I was referring to.
Check this out! I love it

Wow thanks for that Domarius! Those are great! That's just the kinda thing I was looking for.
I'm going to try and make her look a little more Japanese tomorrow. However, here's the update! The background needs a lot of work but I think my geisha is starting to shape up! Any comments and advice is welcome (-:
