View Full Version : UE3 or maya viewport shaders?
Ezekiel6 06-03-2009, 07:29 PM Hi I am currently considering rendering my game art work through the Unreal Editor, however I know very little about it. I assume that it is possible, so does my model have to be specifically for UT3 or another Unreal Engine game or can I import any model into it for rendering? Also I have seen quite a few viewport shaders that produce similar results. Would it be worth using these instead to game the sort of game art beauty render that I am looking for? If anyone can point me in the right direction with some advice or tutorials I'd be really grateful.

you would need to use the Actor X plugin to get it into the editor, but from there, the sky is the limit.
Some adavantages over Maya viewport shaders are that you get realtime glows and animated texures. You can also create significantly more complex realtime shaders if you know what you are doing.
Maya does however have realtime support for all of the shader attributes of a Blinn, so you can get pretty good results and with layered textures, reflection maps and other stuff.

Cool, that's great thanks. I'll look into playing around with it now.
