You already know all my crits so...
Beautiful job

Did you do something different with the painted surfaces
They seem to look better than before.

BTW - that ghosted wheel works well

Thanks for all the kind comments, makes it all worthwhile.

mmiller: I haven't changed the paint colour in the model probably just a different setting when I messed about with Photoshop levels.
Thanks for the crits in the WIP, helped a lot.

Got some paid jobs at last (yay, I can actually eat next month!) so I'm pushed for time, but when I'm finished it's a steam train next and I hope to be a bit more ambitious.

Glad I was helpful

A steam train is an excelent choice.
IMHO they are some of the most interesting machines ever made
Have you decided on a particular locomotive?
Uk prototype?

I've been planning on modeling an American Steam engine for a while now. I've got good refernce on a variety of pennsy stuff.
thinking a K4 might be fun.
I love WW1 AC, but I think it's time to diversify a little.

It's interesting how radicaly different American and UK Steam locomotives were. I've been told the major reason is that in the UK the primary task was passeneger service while in the US it was freight.
Although, that doesn't seem to tell the whole story.

anyways
congrats on the paying job
eating is good :)

mmiller :
I'm planning on doing the 'Evening Star', it's the last steam train to be commisioned in the UK. It only had around 3-4 years life before diesel retired it.
I wanted to do a 'Big boy' I found someone in the US who was selling the plans but way out of my price bracket $511 for the plans that might not be any good as they mentioned the engineering plans were included with the castings and wern't sold separate, so what you get for your $511 I don't know.
The Evening Star cost 60 UK pounds which I guess is around $90 which is more like it, but that Big Boy would have been something.

The Story I heard was the UK early on had an extensive network of railways and most importantly lots of tunnels and bridges. This meant that future Trains had to fit in and under these, hense UK trains are quite compact without too many bits hanging off. In the US with most lines running in the open air you could be more free with what you did.

Thats beautiful. If i could find a crit it would only be a render with more shadowing, but thats it, really nice, and i can only wait with baited breath till the next joy to look at.

It is good to see some very good Technical Illustrations in the finished work. I as yet haven't finished anything.

Is there any plans to have it dirtied up at all?
and horses could be good as well... but maybe not cutaway.

Dirting it up would be nice but all the UVMapping that would entail is a bit scarry.
Now a cutaway horse, I like the sound of that, all gooey and wet with the odd organ fallen out on the floor.

mushroomgod: Which college did you go to? I did Technical Illustration at Croydon a very long time ago, don't believe they do it there anymore, seems to be a dying art.

I use to see adverts for Technical illustration positions in Campaign almost every week, don't often look in there now but it's been many years since I spotted a job anywhere.

Valentina: Cheers

I went to bornemouth art college, just opposite the uni.

Thay stopped doing technical illustration when I finished there (about 5 years ago). Now that do a general illustration that inc technical, natual history and anything else you deside you want to do :)

Its a shame realy, Iv always realy been into this kind of stuff.

Whats Campaign, Iv never heard of it, is it a magazine?

It's a weekly magazine for the advertising/creative industry you'll find it in Smiths. 20+ years ago there use to be lot's of illustrating jobs in there.

How the heck did this thread resurface? Gotta say though, nice model, Clanger! Got anything else in the pipeline at the moment?

Clanger

Emrah: I always envisioned this as a pure 3/4 cutaway technical illustration which never get put into environments, but I think I will break that rule for the next one.

FallenSwordsman: I know what you mean it's the second time it's happened.
I've far too much in the pipeline. I had started a steam train but that's on the back burner as I'm very busy at the moment doing the FX for a friends film which has a lot of modeling work.
