Ok, for practice, I want to transfer this image to digital. But before I do that, I need some advice on how to go about it and issues with perspective and anatomy that you can see.

For those who want a close up to see every screw up, Here (http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/7389/finalfull3nl3.jpg)

Oh yeah, that's mist on top of calm water, by the way. It was too difficult to colour water with the limited selection I had, especially considering how the image was 80cm X 60cm in size.

Help would be appreciated. :)

To transfer to digital you have two choices, photograph or scan...

On the image itself, you may find it easier to correct the issues digitally...

There are some perspective issues that make the boat look like it's rolling right at the moment...

The near side of the boat needs top be raised to overlap the armoured figures left arm or the distance from the near side of the boat above the waterline needs to be extended....

The figure itself looks almost like an orthographic projection.... you may get this in real life if using a camera with a very long lens but I'd usually expect quite a bit more foreshortening. His legs are too short and are actually going the wrong way in perspective!

The look of the water here will probably be mostly reflection so I'd expect a bit more contrast...

Hope this helps...

You hadnt specified whether or not you have a tablet, but i think that would be quite a good way of "scanning" the outlines - placing it over the tablet and going over the lines with the pen. Good luck anyway :)

Thanks for the help! Not sure where I'd find a scanner big enough to encompass the thing, but I do have a fair few photographs that I'll be using in the early sketch stages to speed things along.

Good suggestion, that was how I'd imagined it... It got mucked up somewhere along the way. Good thing I got a history list in the digital! :D

I'm not entirely sure what you mean. The legs are the correct length (half the calves and so on are covered by a brownish red cloth.), you were probably thinking of the visible plating, which does, I must admit, make him look somewhat stunted...
Heh. Yeah, feet are tiny. Gonna fix that.

Reflections are difficult. Is there any particular way they're done? As in, getting depth and the reflection accurate. I couldn't get that right, which is part of the reason I covered things over with a generous layer of mist.

Hope this helps...

Yep. Thanks.

I've got a tablet pc. It does the job. But placing it over the tablet? The thing is 80cm by 60cm. A bit big I'd warrant...

But if you mean importing into to Gimp and then tracing... That's fine.
