Hello , i am a Lightwave user.. im basically making my models in lightwave , freezing the mesh @ then exporting the obj...

I bring the OBJ into Maya , final rig her... but now im at a point where i need to adjust the Weights...

Ive smooth binded the mesh to the rig.. and when i try to paint on my mesh i cant...

it seems you cant make polygons *paintable* only nurbs surfaces?

Any Advice here on painting weights on polygons...

Polygons are paintable, but you need to set up the UVs first

Nope.. you should be able to paint the polys without any problem.

I'm doing this exact same thing by the way. I also export the animated mesh back to lightwave using a set of scripts that you might be interested in:

Anyway, once you skin the object, just select it and pick "Paint skin weights". No need to add UVs or make the object paintable. That's only if your doing Image based painting.
