At last, heres the final design of the ship, and hopefully i wont need to tweak it anymore.

This ship is from 9th february of 1552 and belonged to Captain Pastene, a spanish captain,
that discovered Valdivia (a city in the south of Chile) entering the "Bay of Corral" in 1552 9th february.
Eventually, this ship will be animated for the film that celebrates and reminds the 450 years of
existence of Valdivia city. The film is in a video clip language, that is 12 min. long and will be
distribuited in 4 languages.
This ship tooked me 2 months to finish, because of the complexity of the model, and because
i had to respect the rope system and pay attention to all the details.

Well, i ended up with over 2.6 million faces (everything is meshsmoothed) and 1170 objects, with a total of 120 ropes
The original render was made in 3000x2000 pixels, and it tooked about 12 hours to render, using GI undersampling.

My special thanks goes to:

Amaru L.S.P., my 10 years old little brother that made that small rescue boat and the boxes.

BFest, thanks for encourage me to finish the model.

Laffy, u helped me alot to solve some mapping problems i had, among other things.

Please post comments =).

Ok, heres some screenshots...

Lovely work there.

Very good detail, down to the anchors ropes.
However I think that it being attached to only one rope wouldn't be enough and could break easily, should be thicker imho :)

(nitpicked)

But I really love that model and would love to see it on film

Wow, great model and render!
That's some serious detail work...
wire?
Also, there are four anchors, which probably help distribute the tension somewhat (/nitpicking).

I think that the wood textures and the size of the grain make this appear to be a miniature ship rather than a full size vessel. If that was your intent, then you've nailed it. If you were striving for a convincing replica of the 1:1 ship, then you should re-examine the wood colors and texture scale.

To me it looks like freshly cut, small bits of wood.

Can't fault the modeling though. Looks fantastic!

No steering wheel?

A small explanation to KendoJedi:

I was asking myself the same thing when i builded this model.
As u can see the model is a really small frigate, and in those models they didnt have any steering wheels, they just had to steer it by hand!, they had to move by hand that (uuhmm, dunno how to explain it in english =/) "tail" that is barely visible in those pics.

Any other question and constructive comments are welcomed =).

Ah, I see. Well theres some ship knowledge for me I guess.

The tail thing you refer to is a rudder I believe.

btw, its a beautiful model.
