View Full Version : Mechas/robots quick question :D
ThiagoCrawford 06-02-2009, 02:51 PM Ok so I m making one of the mechas from full metal panic series, its mostly done as far as modelling goes but before I go further I would like to ask what the best way to model a mecha or robot is if you want to rig it later.
Right now the mecha is built up of several pieces, should I join all the parts into one mesh? better leave it in pieces as it is?
whats the best way??

I would keep it in pieces, one piece would mean you would have to skin it and then
body parts would deform and look wierd for a mech.
just link each piece to an appropriate bone.

I would attach all elements that should be moved together into single meshes. For example one Mesh for the forearm, one for the upper arm (providing they don#t have moving parts in itself...) and then use IK only to rig them (no bones or anything...).

ok I get ya, thanks
I just keep thinking that because its a robot most parts shouldn't really deform, but if they dont the robot may not move very smoothly
