Sir-Patroclo: Even in black and white, you have your own style! I really love it! :D
ZacD: That's an interesting concept. He looks lonely in a storm at nighttime.. aww poor him. Losing interest is something I'm too familiar with as well, so that's no problem. As long as you did something to practice, that's good.
dforman: I really love the dynamic feeling of your storm! Very good eye catching composition for sure!
Wexter: Wow! I really love your color you used! Very moody. The highlights you added later in your +30 min version really added a lot to your image. It speaks rhythmically.
Here's mine, Photoshop 47 min (sorry, really, I kept track of timer, but I got too focused and forgot to check timer... and when i did, I stopped immediately... no screen at 40).

Tom-Calisto: OMG, I love it! That's a piece for the wall. :arteest:
Sir-Patroclo: Man, you stuck around for all this time? Sweet! Great style as always. :thumbsup:
DreamMaster: sweet, but it looks more like a little boy, I think...that'll make it the old soul and the sea! ;)
Wexter: Congratulations, you have a highly unusual style that works fantastically! Lives somewhere between naive-painting and comic. Somehow poetic! :)
I went a bit sloppy, minimalistic and a tiny bit sinister... :D

Rongway - I like your tonality, The color choices are pretty exact for the sand and the old guy. I think the sky and water tones are a bit dull and could use some work you should also do some work on anatomy. overall I really like it, great summery beach!
Taron - I love the foreground and the sky, but the stones or rotten wood or whatever is floating there, is not lighten correctly so it damages the perspective feel of the painting. you should working on that.
Tom - Great work! The colors and light are brilliant! and you have really captured the breaking water with your brush strokes.
Dreammaster - great job, I love the wide composition and the soothing atmosphere
dforman - I love it! great brush strokes and awesome minimalism. good job:]
Wexter - as always, you did a really awesome job! the sunset and night tones are fantastic and the overall scenery in very very well done! although you have the same problem that I have, which is making the character sit on something with perspective, you should keep working on it

Thanx, YotamRozin. I think I understand what may be problematic, so I changed it real quick'n'dirty. I think it's an interesting exercise, even if it violates the idea of "- don't post a work in progress" a tiny little bit. It's a boat, some paddles and a rotten corpse with some fish still eating around his feet, by the way. No rocks involved...I didn't know I could fail so miserably suggesting items.

Taron - In fact, once you have told me what it is, it does look pretty well! it just means that these are complicated elements and that they demand that final render that makes them really clear.

Yup, after showing it to my wife and getting the rock thing from her, too, I decided to go over it one more time. A bit less than 10 minutes and this time no PS tweaks, but pure out of Artrage.
It's really an interesting experience to me. Afterwards it all sounds so obvious, but there's a lesson to be learned. Choose your elements wisely and don't stop before it's clear enough what they are! Very good, I like that. :)

HAHAHAHA, by now we could put them into an excellent storyline, I think! :applause:
<image by Wexter>
http://i43.tinypic.com/25kjx4p.jpg
He has never done it, going out on a boat. Fishing all by himself. He never knew he would care about it. But there was nothing else left to do for him. He tried so long not to retire, but it caught up with him. So he was spending time with his wife. Until she finally died and he was all alone. So he moved out of the city, leaving all the nonsense behind. And here he was, nothing left but to watch the sea. Fishing. Alone. "Nah", he thought.

http://www.cgbakery.com/images/cgs-oldmanandthesea-01.jpg
Well, it wasn't so hard to find a boat and a fishing pole after all. Who would've known that they offer that so early in the morning on an island!? People there were making wild gestures, seemingly telling him that they want the boat back in one piece, he guesses. But eventually they let him go have it.
<image by Advarsky>
http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/9503/oldmanandaseat.jpg
He studied the boat's floor carefully and somewhat worried, since they were pointing down with such seriousness. How could there be a hidden beartrap or what ever that gesture meant?!
<image by mecos>
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v512/mecos/OLDmanSEA.jpg
By the time he found out what they were talking about, the shark decided to eat the boat instead of him. On his way down, he wondered whether his bones were dryer than the wood of the dingy. And he thought about how he regrets never having gone out to fish or make a son. Surely he would've learned to swim then. For a moment he even thought about opening his eyes, but - "what's the use, now I've seen it all"- he thought then.
<image by dforman>
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_1mxK1abFOpE/SiSUkSBXI0I/AAAAAAAAAU0/VYUZ8j7ukhU/s800/man_%26_sea.jpg
As the storm hit the island, people ashore gave up the search. The man was old and so was the boat, so what's the point. Maybe he caught a big fish, who drag him toward the edge of the world and he flew off to valhalla or where ever washed up businessman go after their final order. They talked about him for a while until he became just another little story on the island with a happy ending.

A very different story, however, is being told on the next island down the current.
