View Full Version : Normal Extraction! Help!

Hello all.

I've got a little problem when extracting a normal map. For some reason the extracted map looks jagged, as if the map is exported from the low res mesh, instead of the high res one. I can't figure it out because the model goes up to level 5 sub-d, and yet the normal map looks like level 1, but with the details.

It's a tough thing to explain, but hope someone can help.

do you have Smooth Target Model on?

Sure do....And that's what's confusing me. I've extracted normal maps before with no problem. I don't get it. The imported mesh is just a regular .obj from max.

did you try the normal map on your exported base mesh and see if it renders okay? don't judge the map, judge the rendering

I have the same problem with mudbox.Jagged normal maps.
