View Full Version : disappearing verteces
Joril 05-09-2002, 11:27 AM I just picked my OpenGl driver to view max, but now it doesn't show any verteces anymore.
Does anyone know how to solve this?

Not sure if this is similar to what you have, but when using editable poly sometimes the vertices stop showing, usually converting to mesh and back to poly seems to clear it for some reason :)

The blue dots that indicate a vertex are no longer there.
When I change back to HEIDI i can see them again, but HEIDI is SO SLOW, I can't even rotate my object without it becoming a bounding box while they rotate.
Thus, I want OpenGl. But then the bleu dots are gone.
On the image I attached you see the verteces in heidi. When they disappear in OpenGl, MAX looks like a crappy piece of frustration because it just becomes unworkable.

I just made a startling discovery!
I was swapping back and forth between heidi and OpenGl.
The vertices do show in OpenGl. The reason why I coulnd't see them is bacause they are only 1 pixel big!! I only saw them because I put my nose to the screen!!
And I'm working in a resolution of 1280x960.
Oh I case you are wondering, chosing "big dots" for pixels doesn't help.
If there are any other solutions, I'd really like to hear em.

This is what I need to work with...

Go into Customise-->preferences-->viewports and change the "Display Vertices as....(large dots/small dots). Some OpenGL display drivers show verts so tiny when set to "small" that you can't even see them.
If that doesn't work try fiddling with your driver settings, and as a last resort go get some new detonators.

Bah too slow. Better take my second suggestion then.

None of that works.
I guess all i can do to help visualize the verteces is the 3d snap toggle :annoyed:
Btw, I have a Kyro chipset in my computer with the latest drivers intalled.

Sorry then, I can't help. I do all of my modeling in Heidi anyway, it's actually slightly faster than OpenGL in low poly scenes on my system.
BTW if your object turns to a bounding box when you rotate it then you have turned off Degredation Override. You can turn it back on by clicking the lil button with the cube icon next to the snap button at the bottom of the UI.

Well, actually you did help :)
The bounding box is what got me annoyed in the first place.
So thanks alot
