because its giving me reflections from the hdri that i do not need...:banghead:

So do you want your object to still reflect other objects on the scene but not the hdri map? One way is to use a mia material and control the max distance of the reflection then use a sphere as your environment instead of the mentalrayIbl... Another way would be is to do it through different render passes.

thnx for the reply...but the first way isnt working for the scene am working on....so could u please explain how can render a reflection pass without having the unwanted reflections included in the pass ??
ps.: i am using maya 2009

try attaching a different environment shader to the shading group of the material you want to remove the reflections from. use an empty mip_lookup_spherical or something similar and see if that works.
