How do I create and render fog in Maya 5.0???

I have been through the docs but have come up against a brick wall.

Forgive the simplicity of this question, but I am used to Max so doing the same in Maya is less than obvious to me.

Go To:
> Render Global Settings
> 'Maya Software' Tab [if you're using default software renderer]
> Scroll down to 'Render Options'
> Click checkered box next to 'Enviornment Fog'

Please keep in mind that this is one of the many ways to do it.
