View Full Version : Material problem
smika 07-20-2003, 08:54 PM Dear friends,
i came to this problem:
I need to build a shader for a material which looks like matted glass, but then having a little image on it.
Basically, it is a round matte glass made cylindr, having an image on its caps.
Please advise how i can make it. I really need to understand logic of this.
Thank you in advance.

material questions are hard to get answered. it really comes down to understanding the physical properities of what you're rendering and how the light plays of it. it's a hard thing to come to grips with, but just keep reading and hopefully it will come together for you sooner rather than later.

You can either use a 3D projection texture for the cap, or do a uv mapping on the cap.
If it is a simple poly cylinder the easiest way is using uv map.

before you endeavor on any projects in Maya you really do need to read some starter books. I would highly recommend Maya Foundation . It's published by alias|wavefront and will tell you not only how to get the glass effect you are looking for but it will explain all the things every maya user should know.
Maya is not like photoshop. You can't just fool around with it till you 'get it'. You do need to be trained.
Good luck,
Kiaran
