View Full Version : Need help making realistic metal texture
Girn26 07-20-2003, 07:17 AM Im making a skin for a gun and wanna learn how to make a really nice metal texture to put over it, to bring out the realism. Does anyone here know how to make a good metal texture? Or is there any really good tutorials out there? thank you
btw, im using photoshop 7. and im still a newb at texturing so please be specific thx.

Could you post an image of the material you're trying to create? There's an aweful lots of different types of metals, from chrome and brushed metal to rusted metal, gold, silver, etc. If you can be more specific we may be able to help.

No, I mean if you can find a photo of the kind of texture you want to make, and post that image here, someone can look at your reference image and give you suggestions, not that you'd necessarily use the reference to actually texture your model.

That's a good tutorial, also, since you want rusty metal, go out and take some photos of real rusty metals in your neighborhood. Find some old factories and such, I'm sure you can get some great snapshots of all sorts of rusted and corroded metals.
