View Full Version : creature model
nacire 07-20-2003, 06:02 AM Hey guys just posting a wip of one of my characters, figured I could get some crits from you guys. I like the model ,but as of right now the intention is to get a normal map off of the model to apply to a low poly version.
Just a lil pic to show the model.

i have been watching the progress of this character since day one and kept telling him to post, so its about time man!!!! I feel as if it were watching a child from birth grow into a beautifull being. Personally i have no critisizm for ya bud. All i can say is keep up the good work General...and oh yeah...thanks for the help with my gaming character, its gonna look great for the runner up next to yours man!!!!
wow It's looks really nice  there is an amazing precision in your character, I love the vein!
could you show us a wireframe?
I'm waiting to see the next step! :wavey:

Agreed, i love the veins and details.. the legs is nice..
hmmm but somehow i don't really like the horn...
it doesn't sit in nicely with the rest of the model... don't really know why.

Awesome model man!!!
But hey, you wanted a critic so here it is: the feet have those nice hooves but in the middle they are kinda strange, too much I think, maybe u should hollow out the middle section of the feet and make them smaller.
keep up the good work! Can't wait for the textured version!

Here are some of the wireframes, it's a bit dense and not as optimized as it probably should be, but Im just wanting a normal map so, no harm done! I hope! LOL!

... wow...
That's really awesome work there nacire.
I agree about the horns. To me, they look too small and whimpy for such a huge strong beast. I think if they were a little more massive, that would help.
keep up the good work:D

Lookin rockin dude! :buttrock: Cant wait to see it finished. jermi...
Yep, looking good!
Nacire, are you painting the veins for a displacement map in Maya or doing it in another program?
what's your technique?

so awsome but I realy dislike the horns, they look to weak for such a strong... thing, they should have a purpose, maybe headbutting or something but right now they are too weak for just about anything
rest... amazing:applause:

Thx for the complements guys! Everyone is really against these horns though! Lol! I didn't realize they really looked so miniscule in comparison to the beast! I'll do some revisions and see what a larger set of horns look like! As for the veins in the mesh, I havent used any displacement at all. Everything has been modeled in Maya with all of the default tools! The veins were simple enough, I just used the split poly tool to put 3 lines in for the structure, then used the sculpt poly tool to pull the middle verts up! I like the feedback people, so the more the merrier!

Just tweaking some displacement map settings trying to achieve an even greater level of detail. Still have some issues with the resolution of the map but will deep updates posted as I get closer to the final product. Ill also try to post some shots of the uvs!

Just getting some tests of the normal mapping. Havent painted the displacement maps yet so no fine detail in the normal map yet! Planning on showing this off on a reel for game modelling, so plz comment! I know Im having some issues with the texture seams but will eventually paint this out in a 3s paint app. Also Im getting some strange results in the map where some of the veins look reversed or pushed in if you will. Also have noticed some artifacts ocurring but think I need a higher res normal map? Not sure? Oh yeah the body mesh as of now is 1971 polys. Ill post a triangulated count soon.
