HI,

Wanted to Share one of my on going Personal R&D for
Octopus Tentacle Dynamic Simulation
Using Maya Hair Dynamic System.

I have Animated Just the XYZ Translation Rest it is Simulated.

Skinning and Rigging is very Basic
Rendering Mentalray FinalGather Preview Quality.

I have been working on this for quite some time and this is the
first step, Am working on more complex setup & simulation,
would be Enhancing more to wards technical part of it where the
Tentacles would have Automated collision detection and of course
a good Rig to Control & overall Simulation properties and more.

Loks really nice, but the octopus head still looks stiff and needs some animation... overall the tentacles look really good...but are they really controlable ?

Right now the character has basic controls, and yes tentacles can be controlled manually, and can edit even after simulation and updated according to your choice, And yes you are very much right the head is stiff and it not animated yet, will be updated with more stuffs later with more flexibility, Thankyou very much for your comment and i appreciate it.

bloody amazing work - it's just that the octopus clearly looks like it moves first and the tentacles follow - doesnt seem to be enough expand and contract as it pushes itself along.

I dont know if it swims with it's tentacles or forces water through like a jet, either way - it doesnt look like it is propelling itself enough.
