Imagine you have to produce a shot with 15000 dominoes, and running it through rigid body dynamics so its believable. How would you optimise the scene to keep it manageable?

I have done a sample scene with about 7K of them and it is almost impossible to use (and I am using a pretty powerful machine). I accept that the dynamics may take a while to run, I will eventually keyframe them so they are only active for a couple of seconds during the rough time they should be falling.

Anyone got any ideas on how to make the whole thing more manageable.

Using cubes for the dynamics parented to the actual object for rendering (although not even introduced this overhead yet).

USE nima for maya OR dynamica for maya.

it seems to be no way to work with maya's orginal dynamics system for scenes like you said. but the engines above works really great when you try to simulate large amount of rigid bodies as long as you don't need too many collision details, simple cube shaped dominoes should be ok with those plugins. They can always match the quality for film.

good luck with u.
