hi all, this is my first attempt to model in wings3d, so far i'm just roughing out the shape of the water buffalo.
i'm not aiming for photorealism, so i kindda exaggerated the horn and some parts of the body .... but i would really like to have you guys comment on all aspects of the model... personally i think the whole thing looks weird right now haha ....
and eventually i want to bone/skin and animate it, so can anyone please give me some comment/suggestion on the edgeloops/details on various parts (such as knee and places where there would b bending) so that when i want to rig it, i wont run into a big mess :P

so here r the images

looking nice jhuangtw:cool:

I think that the legs and feet need to be scaled up, because the weight of the body would probably snap those like twigs. lol.

Other than that, maybe the horns should come out perpendicular to the neck a little further before they start going back, like in your reference. It might be the angle, but they look like they almost go straight back.

nice start:beer:

hey, nice model so far, legs seem a little short, mind you and hooves could be twice as wide and long. Head looks a little too big for the body, maybee scale it down by 1/4 to 1/3

I did find a few ref pics for you, though.
Here's (http://www.asian-nation.org/images/viet2.jpg) a good one from the side, I think a biy is stiing on the back, so ignore him hehe,

This (http://www.amnh.org/exhibitions/permanent/mammals/images/asian_pict.jpg) should help with forequaters and head

Although this (http://www.islands.ne.jp/tobezoo/asian/photo/suigyu.jpg) is a different kind of buffalo, it dhould help with skeleton placement and articulation.

Hope that helps :)

hi guys ... thanks a lot for the feedback :) , yeah i realized how tiny those legs are after you guys pointed it out haha ... i'm working on that now.
and to tummy, thanks a lot for the ref pix, definitely helped a lot, since i only worked from the few pix of this kind of water buffalo that i could find on googles image.

on the legs tho, i'm gonna scale them up, but i still wanna keep them kindda short, coz i want to give it a heavy/chunky look ... do you think that would be a good idea?

i'll post another tiny update ASAP ... as i dont really have much spare time, i'm making really slow progress on this model haha :hmm:

Well,

I don't see anything wrong with that idea. It could work out pretty well wit the size of his head... But I'd have to see it to know if it works or not. I think it will though.:D

Keep it up:buttrock:

It really boils down to what you want to do with this character, really. If your gonna ues it in a kinda toony anim , then he's good as is:cool: , but if your going for realism, then you will need to change a few things - look at "Donkey" in "Shrek", he is a donkey, no doubt about it (right kinda shape, right kinda fur), just he's got cartoony proportions, but he looks believeable because of the lighting and texturing, etc. In the end YOU have the say as to what he looks like. I'm keen to see how this proj goes.

(waiting in anticipation for the next update)
